Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi,
Does anyone know what Chamonix night skiing involves? I've tried to google for it and the only thing I can find is night skiing at Tourchet / Les Houches on a nursery slope. Is there anything more substantial and is it even open at the moment?
I'm currently in Chamonix and I'm trying to organise something for this week.
Thanks,
Rich

Hi
I have read mag articles that people ski the Valley Blanche by moon light.Ask at the guides office they may be able to help.
There is sometimes night skiing on the slope near the station Plannards I think but anytime I am in town it has only been used for racing at night.
Have fun

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Ok thanks,
I'll get a guy to ask about it when he goes to the guide office this morning.

It used to happen down Boisson but don't think it happens anymore. Very dodgey it was too, longer sections in the dark than sections lit up...great fun though!
Only seen Planards floodlit for events not general use, if they dont they should. Planards slopes would be ideal!

I've skied the Vallee Blanche by night, but given the conditions, I'd be surprised if it's OK to do at the moment. The snow bridges have to be well covered, there has to be snow cover down to the valley (the train won't be running), the moon has to be full, the weather has to be clear, and you have to know the way. I'm not sure a guide would risk taking you unless he already knew your ability.
Having said that, it was fantastic!

Chamcham, OK so that won't be happening then! Sounds lovely though, have done some moonlit skiing, it's fantastic.
Jumpin Jack, I don't think there's any worthwhile night skiing in Cham, if indeed any at all.

We've given the night skiing a miss. The restaurants have proven too much of an attraction.
The restraurants have proven to be very very good.
We're off to Grand Montents / Argentiere tomnorrow, hopefully for some better vis.
Thanks to all who replied.

Jumpin Jack, you arrived at the correct answer! Ski your legs off at GM and then use darkness to enjoy a beer and nosebag. Last week, the tabletop barbecue at the Boccalatte (up the street from the AdM cable car) was particularly good (and big - make sure you're hungry first).
