Any ideas appreciated:
Stuck with Feb Half Term
Kids aged 10 (can ski most things) and 5 (beginner)
Ski school for 5 year old half day only (seems to rule out some places in Austria eg Obergurgl, Serfaus)
Would like to be walkable to the main lifts, but most importantly to ski school
Wife is non-skier so bit of a traditional town would be helpful
Hotel rather than chalet, preferably with a pool, half board. Been to Esprit chalets in past which were great, but hotel better for non-skier.
Don't need childcare
Budget for accommodation €3k
Rather not have lots of lift queues (used to quietness of Obergurgl) -may be tough at half term
Some sort of group skiing for me would be great (eg SCGB resort or similar)
Best match I've come up with is Selva, hotels seem quite pricey though.
All suggestions welcome

Just cos a lot of your criteria match - try Chalet Annahof in Saas fee with Esprit; whilst you say you dont need the childcare, it's good for the kids to have other kids around, and its a chalet hotel and a nice town, and the lifts are about 100m away
God knows what its like at half term though
And being Switz it aint cheap, but you pay most of costs in UK

If you don't need the childcare try the hotel Ambassador (run by Total) literally across the road from the Annahof (as they are the same company you'll possibly find the kids might get in the same lessons) and it has a swimming pool. Close to lifts. We stayed there with our kids about 5 or 6 years ago. We didn't need childcare because I was pregnant with the second sprog and so not skiing.
DOn't know what the prices will be like.
Saas Fee is a lovely place.

Why not try Bardonecchia Italy, prices are reasonably cheap, excellent ski school if you stay in the Rive Hotel, Ca Fiore or Campo Smith Apartments you are less than 5 minutes from the main lift and ski school meeting point. Ski school is three hours a day in the morning. Town is a nice traditonal Italian town also has good train links to Turin so your OH could to Turin for a day trip. We have just finished the main half term here and the pistes were very quiet with only lift queues in the morning for the main lift. Nielson offer three days of guided skiing as do Crystal. No hotel has a pool but there is a municipal one just five minutes walk from the hotel. Both Ca Fiore & Hotel Rive are half board. Also short transfer from Turin Airport 60-75 minutes nearly all motorway so no windy roads for the kids.

You could try the Pyrenees for something different and unknown. Great snow this year and a big resort with lifts up to 2877m.... PM me for info

i can vouch for this place , the chalet is fine but it's the location which is excellent and with views right up the mountain and virtually ski to door on your return. and with esprit it's fully catered with free wine with your meal
great company and great location and with saas fee being traffic free it's great not having to worry about cars.

Thanks all -tempted by Saas Fee but would prefer family meals together this time. Also chalet conversation tends naturally to revolve around skiing which is not so much fun if one doesn't ! . Bardonecchia looks interesting and I'll research this a bit more. Also looking at Madesimo which ticks most boxes -town may be a tad small though.

nixmap, Not comercialism, this is a real reply! I suggest a real alternative location, that I love and think is great, that not many people consider which also answers the question at the head of the thread and you snub it as comercialism... I am a bit stuck, yes I work here but I also want to let people know about the area who haven't considered it before... If I had replied with yes come and stay only 3.99 with free lollies, then yes call it comercial and scrub the comment but I didn't/dont. I want to be helpful and give information on something I know very well - I am a mountain guide and have worked all over the place I often spend alot of time answering questions and I tend to talk about things I know - which must obviously include things that involve my work... As I said I am a bit cornered... Should I say nothing about thigns I am an expert on just to avoid being labelled "comercial"?

in garbure we trust, I'm 100% with you, your contributions to the site are valuable and the particular reply above was not at all a sales pitch.
nixmap, I always thought your posts were received with too much negativity, especially since they developed into pretty good threads. But popping up on random threads just to highlight what in your view are commercial posts, double standards etc, is a bit obsessive on your part, plus flat out wrong in the post above. Chill, ski that powder, enjoy life.

Do you have any plans to visit the capital city of the federal state of Tyrol in western Austria, Innsbruck ??
It is located in the Inn Valley at the junction with the Wipptal (Sill River), from where you can also get the access to the Brenner Pass, some 30 km (18.64 mi) south of Innsbruck. Located in the broad valley between high mountains, the Nordkette (Hafelekar, 2,334 metres (7,657 ft) in the north, Patscherkofel (2,246 metres (7,369 ft)) and Serles (2,718 metres (8,917 ft)) in the south.
Well thats only my suggestion to visit Innsbruck

There are tons of things to do in Innsbruck
If you take your short break in Innsbruck, Austria when these events are taking place, add them to your list of things to do in Innsbruck.
Their is also Bergisel Ski Jump which is a contemporary jump stands 47 meters tall and offers amazing views of the city and the Alps to daring skiers.
As you wanted to know some skiing place, here what is best for you

Thanks everyone for the ideas.
Having a re think due to the outrageous price of flights to Innsbruck at half term (£500 each for 4...) Will need to see what price Easyjet are when the are released.
May need to rethink my dates.
