Poster: A snowHead

I've been looking at Alpe D'Huez as a possible destination for a good few years. But I've also heard a fair bit about the Ski Peak setup in Vaujauny.
Anyone been there?
Is it better to stay in Alpe D'Huez instead?
Have you used Ski Peak?
Cheers All

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Thinking about Vaujany myself Mark as the link from there to Pic Blanc is quicker than out of Alpe D! And Vaujany still retains some olde world charm whereas A D H has none apparently. Have the Ski Peak brochure at home and looks pretty good.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Vaujany great - very rapid access into the higher reaches of the skiing, and also a characterful village, now with modern facilities. Ski Peak do super food, Rissiou is a bit tired now, and the chalets are pricey but worth the extra. we've been twice, but enjoy exploring, its on the list for a return.

Went to Alpe d'huez in January and have to agree with mikehall58's comments above. We skiied over to Vaujany, far more pictureskew than Alpe d and the link to the top definitely quicker. I'd consider it when I return to that area, although we had a brill time in Alpe d as well.

Another good company is Ski Miquel in Alpe D. we had an excellent holiday with them. They have a chalet hotel.

Was lucky enough to stay in Vaujany for a month last winter self catering in the excellent Les Balcons apartments right next to the lifts. Uplift to the ADH area is fantastic with minimal queueing but the village is very quiet in the evenings apart from a couple of decent bars and restaurants. Depends what you are looking for I suppose but if you want to ski & not party I would definitely reccomend Vaujany.

Used Ski Peak many years ago and was very pleased with the company and it is still family run. I was in the Hotel Rissiou which even then was hardly upmarket but the evening meals were excellent. It was only a 100m walk to the huge cable car which drops you in the middle of the Alpe D runs at a reasonable altitude.

I agree with the comments above about charm and speed of access. The only drawback I see of Vaujany is getting back there when there's no snow at low altitude
