Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

St Anton advice please

Off to St Anton for first time this weekend! We're in a Sunday to Sunday chalet but would like to drive Saurday evening stay somewhere en route and get out skiing on Sunday. Can anyone help with 2 questions:

- Anyone recommend somewhere within 90 mins from St Anton on the road from Zurich likely to have availability on a Saturday night (and ideally where we can get a decent meal)
- Where is the easiest place to drive to with parking, where we can buy a pass and get on the slopes quickly on the Sunday morning?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

You might bf able to park fairly easilly in stuben - there's a couple of car parks there and are close to the lift pass office. It's also at the Zurich end of the arlberg. You could also consider sonnenkopf for the same reasons but having never skied there in my 8/9 visits Embarassed I couldn't comment on parking/lift passes. Otherwise nasserein end of town is better for parking near a lift station.
Can't help on the 90 mins from St Anton but ideally you would bf past the tunnel that joins germany to Austria as it can get pretty busy

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Parkyparcours, Doubt you'll get any deals on ski hire. It is a cartel in St Anton for ski hire

Park in the Nasserein car park (bottom end of the St Anton town), right next to the Nassereinbahn upto Gampen. Sorry can't help with the first question.

I've never stayed there, but Bregenz is just a few minutes out of your way and roughly an hour or so from St Anton. I've heard it's a nice place. Failing that there is Dornbirn, which looks a bit drab (seen only from the road I hasten to add!), but I suspect you'd find an Ibis type hotel there.

Have fun in St Anton!

BobinCH, Sonnekpf ski area has a big car park right by the lift, just the orher side of the Arlberg pass from St Anton. We stopped there for the Saturday on the way hamoe after leaving St Anton last winter. Nice little ski area, fine for an odd day.

BobinCH, there's a big underground car park just as you come into St Anton - Under the new Rendlbahn building.

PS Take your snow chains - weather looks hairy on Saturday

Are you sure that's a public car park? It's not marked on the map (here: http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/images/stories/pdf-dateien/ortsplaene/op-stanton-stchristoph.pdf) as parking. However, the old Rendl lift still seems to have parking and it's only a 5 minute walk to the lifts from there.

Weather does seem rather promising... getting very jealous already.

The only free parking we found was the old Rendl lift station, our as boabski says drive thru to Stuben and park there, better off piste and snow Wink

 You know it makes sense.

BobinCH, If lunching in stuben dont go to the Berghaus Stuben, which is the most obvious choice as it's the closest to the piste/chair. Used to be good but now has new owners specialising in dumplings NehNeh and is pretty crap to be honest. I've not been this year but assuming it's still the same.
Try hotel post or hannes Schneider haus a wee bit up the main street.
Enjoy your trip and make sure you pay a visit to the griabli (opp mooserwirt) when the band is playing

I know it's alleged to be not as good as it used to be, but I wouldn't say it was crap. I've went there a couple of times last year and the food was fine, but yes, dumplings are the speciality. It's Austria, where are dumplings not a speciality? Smile
