Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Morzine Off Piste......Guiding Maybe.

Me and a friend are heading to Morzine on the 17th March and will have 3 days on the slopes (Fri,sat,sun). He is a boarder and me a skier, both intermediate level.

We are both interested in starting to venture off piste, we've both had a dabble off to the edge of the posted but nothing spectacular. Both comfortable on red runs and tackle the odd black.

firstly would you recommend getting a guide as it's our first time, and also will they cater for us being a mix of boarder and skier? We would maybe like to tackle the vallee de la manche, I know people have advised that a guide is used for this before on the forum.

basically could anybody recommend any guides/group sessions that would cater for the mixed group for the vallee de la manche or any other off piste, or alternatively recommend anywhere we could head that is relatively safe for people who are transferring from piste to powder as such. Very Happy

And any idea of prices if anyone knows.

deanobalino, lots of pseudo (controlled) off-piste to be had in the Fornet bowl; off the Avoriaz Coupe de Monde and in the Crosets bowl (off the top of the Coupe de Monde).

The Avoriaz Alpine Ski School also run weekly trips to the Vallee de la Manche - have a look at this - http://www.avoriazalpineskischool.com/skizone-backcountry.html - it's probably your cheapest route to going to the Vallee de la Manche.
