I've been posting tidbits in the Chamonix thread in 'Snow Reports', but we're now partially crippled and taking a day off, so I thought I'd start a proper TR.
Fresh off the plane the day before from Australia, not having skied since October and in new boots, we knew it wasn't going to be much of a day. We had to head into town to pick up our skis which had been remounted with Dynafiddle bindings, buy some poles that were suitable for touring and some other bits and pieces, we finally made our way up to Grands Montets. A few frontside groomers and then a nice lunch, we jumped in line for the top cable car. Our skiing was pathetic so we thought we would take some nice scenic photos:
Heavy snow and low cloud in the valley meant that pow skiing would be by braille and on wobbly legs, so we decided to go for a short tour above Flegere to learn how to use all our new-fangled touring gear.
Snowfall the day prior and good visibility meant one thing - head to the top of the Grands Montets. We had 2 runs from the top, with a Bochard in between while we waited for our reservation. Snow was awesome, and then we headed to Vallorcine to ski one of the couloirs on the backside of Le Tour
A beautiful day, we toured up from Flegere to the Col des Crochues, skied some pow, skinned again up to the Col du Berard, and skied superb pow all the way to the valley floor. An absolutely stellar day.
A relaxing day on the Grand Envers. Legs were starting to get tired but the weather & snow were still great so we decided to have a 1 run day, with a nice lunch half way down. Views were absolutely outstanding.
Rest day today, tomorrow we head off to a Refuge in the Ecrins for 3 days of touring, and possibly some time in La Grave on the way back.
