Poster: A snowHead

My own vicar is off there for a fortnight so I thought I'd flag up the presence of the English Speaking Church in Verbier throughout each season.
In addition to a service at 6:00pm on each Sunday they advertise that they are there to help anyone in difficulty, suffering personal trauma or involved in an accident.
Contact details and full information on their website: http://www.escverbier.org/
Other resorts where there is an English church presence with services in English and the presence of British clergy organised by the Intercontinental Church Society include Wengen and Zermatt.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Very nice they are too, even if you're not a regular churchgoer. We had our wedding at St Bernard's in Wengen about a million years ago Carol Service on Christmas Eve, with snow falling outside and all the kids dressed up is a real treat.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

A friend of mine (a canon of Salisbury now) used to get his skiing fix working in the Church in Arosa every year. Jolly nice too.

Skied with a couple of vicars with the SCGB in Morzine! I think the church is down by StJA. Would not go but it is a good thing for some and the travelling vicar!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

There is, or was sure it still is, a Carol Service on Christmas Day all in English, organised in the church in Niederau by Janet Jochum. It seemed like a three line whip when we used to be there and various ski instructors, tour reps, people on holiday would all take part reading the nine lessons. A lovely occasion with small children usually clutching some small gift that they had already received.

Have dined and skied with a number of the English vicars in Verbier - despite being a non believer, thay have always been great company. Particularly Julio, who is 6'6", black, wears a silver Montcler puffa and throws himself down the mountain at breakneck speed, with little knowldge of turning. However, I understand his personal insurance policy is superior to mine...
