Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowmobile useage in Yellowstone National Park

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
This contentious issue has been in the news again recently with the US Govt's plans to allow up to 540 snowmobiles daily into the Park having been rejected by a US Federal Judge, see this.

I've been to Yellowstone in Winter twice, and it really is a magical place during that season. I can well understand the attraction of a Snowmobile trip into the park, but I have to say that even with the modern 4 stroke snowmobiles which they now use, you can still hear a snowmobile tour group approaching from quite a distance. On both occasions I visited I stayed in accomodation within the park for a couple of days, and was able to make use of the extensive network of Cross-Country ski trails, which to my mind is a better way to experience the magnificent wilderness and wildlife there.

When I was there back in 1987 there was around 2000 snowmobiles a day in the Park . They were talking about reductions even back then !!

Alastair Pink, I have sympathy for the people who are trying to limit things. But as someone who used to own a snowmobile in Canada - it is a cracking way to explore backcountry. I loved it. Embarassed
