Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

St. Anton- ski guide and restaurants

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

Can I just say how helpful I find this site, it's great!

I have a couple of St. Anton related questions.

1) Can anyone recommend a ski guide or ski school we can book a guide through? Three of us would like to hire a guide for some off piste skiing for a day or two. We're all pretty experienced skiers but none of us have ever been to St. Anton before. Does anyone know roughly what we should be paying, I’ve had a look on the internet and there seems to be some variation.

2) Can anyone recommend any 'must do' places for lunch? I’m open to any ideas.

Thanks.
Very Happy

Best guides: http://www.pistetopowder.com/ Either private group or join others of the same standard.

See the other Arlberg thread next to yours!

bagfry, Hospiz Alm in St. Christophe is very good. Push the boat out at goldener Berg in Lech if you fancy setting fire to your credit card.

Not sure about "must do", but these are nice:

Hospitzl Alm at St Christophe
Rodel Alm.
Griabli (op. Mooserwirt)

The question of guides has been done to death on the other thread(s) as indicated by previous answers... should be plenty of info there already I think Smile

The Mooserwirt lunches are excellent too, before the apres starts. Quite expensive, but works out as good value when you see the size of the meals!! Hospiz Alm as above is also a must.

+1 for the Rodel Alm. Great for lunch, and is a "must do" place on Tuesday or Thursday night. Take a sledge down the track and stop halfway for some grostl. Great fun.

scooby_simon, When were you last in berghaus stuben? New owners last year and not as good as previously in my opinion. Don't know if they've changed things around this year?

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

It certainly seems to have lost it's legend reputation, but it was OK last season when I popped in. It's not a bad place, just not as good as it used to be perhaps?

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Hospiz Alm has been recommended by mates, so I think I'll definitely try it.

In so far as setting my credit card on fire goes, I hoping upon hope that after a week in Zermatt this will look slightly more modest! Zermatt is fantasic but boy can they charge!

Arlberg guides seem to have a guide for a reasonable rate, so I think we'll probably end up with them, unless people thing that's crazy! Thanks again Razz

It's certainly cheaper to eat in St Anton than in Zermatt Smile

Regarding guides, see the other thread here... http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=74877.

I'm sure the ski school guides are fine, but there are a lot of recommendations (including by me) for Piste to Powder.

I know they don't give the private rate but a couple of years ago it was a bit less than the singles rate for 5 people.

I know they don't give the private rate but a couple of years ago it was less than the singles rate for 5 people. More expensive than some but they are good and the day is a proper full day, which some are not. (The boss and head guide is Englsh)

This was our "light" lunch at the Rodel Hutte on the Saturday at the end of half term week. It was excellent and about 30 euros I think.

scooby_simon, Ouch. The owners from the berghaus now run haus Schneider, up the main St. Can't tell you how disappointed we were last in in the berghaus - it's not Shiite but nit as good as it was

Thought the Berghaus Stuben was good this year. A fairly young crew running it. Liked the food, esp the grostl, and the prices.

We walked past the Berg this year and went to the "Hotel Post"; Excellent; probs better than the old berg; a couple in our group had the house salads and they were excellent! the Post is the new Berg......

The food in the Galzig lift station was also very good; cooked to order pizza and burgers; not quite "old school" lunching but excellent value for those days when you do not want a 60-90 minute lunch..

Goldener Berg isn't that dear for food is it? We lunched there a couple of years ago, seemed ok. Staying there on the other hand.................
