Thinking of splashing out on a decent set of gloves - the old ones have just as much duck tape as they can handle and was thinking of a pair of Hestra; either the Hestra Army Leather XCR Gore-Tex Alpine Pro Glove or the 3 finger mit. Best price i've seen is 79.99.
Anyone have these or any Hestras as only really want to spend the money if they are the D's B's.
Anyone seen them cheaper?

Hestra are swedish made, I believe and are very good quality gloves.
I've had several pairs and have only good things to say about them.

flog873347, definitely worth it, particularly if you actually buy the correct size. Which I didn't. 
Therefore I have a pair in size 7 which I will sell you if you like. Worn about twice. I shall be buying another pair in the correct size once I've sold them.

Yep, got some of these half price in the end of season sales at the EoSB this year http://www.hestragloves.com/#/en/gloves/alpine_pro/leather_ski_cross/ and love them. I guess it is best to find a pair to try for for size, I bought size 8s which fit perfectly whereas normally I'm a size 9 (or sometimes 10) in gloves. Also tried several pairs in the shop and some supposedly same size same model were rather too small so guess there might be a bit of variation!

Yes - I have the Army Leather Goretex ..... fab. I would have got the 3 finger version, but that was not available in goretex when I got mine. I have the largest size and sometimes use a liner.
Would definitely buy again - paid £70 for them.

Hi I'm after a pair of these, saw some at the weekend in Ellis brigham. £79.99. Had lots of recommendations to get them.
Currently deciding whether to order online from these guys http://www.specialistsocks.co.uk/m57/Hestra/index.html (because they are cheap), trek back to Ellis Brigham or try track some down in Val T next weekend.
If anyone knows of a good/cheap place to order them please let me know.

I have two different models (the army leather XCR Gore-Tex and the C-Zone powder glove).
The quality is good, can't fault them for that but the insulating inner glove on the army leather model is shite and my fingers burned with cold - even with additional merino liners. The outer glove is fantastic and hard-wearing but it takes time (about 6 weeks) and generous applications of leather conditioner to wear in the 'eagle grip' shaped leather until they are really comfortable.
To be honest, I only used the army leather model for the first season, then bought leather mittens that are heavily insulated with Primaloft and keep my fingers toasty in anything below -10°C. I use the Hestra C-zone powder gloves for warmer weather. While they don't have any leather parts, they have survived encounters with my ski edges.
Edit: the C-Zone gloves have a very soft leather lining the palm and undersides of the fingers.

Thans for all the info - i was going to say that anyone interested we could do the multibuy from:

Which model did you get - i'm a size 8 (according to me measuring) and i do have small hands (a small in golf gloves, although still all man you understand!!) PM me a price if you think they may be ok.

Cant fault hestra gloves, i had the 3 finger mitts for 3 seasons, replaced the inners, they were awesome. Only slight issue was no child strap to stop you dropping glove, but this was a simple extra add on.
Although im now on a pair of dakine mavericks and also dakine vipers (couldnt resist the top gun gloves) both fantastic.
However for a great quality glove go for the hestra, but make sure you get the hestra wax too and keep the leather nice and soft.

I love the Hestra's but in really stupidly cold weather put a pair of goretex overmitts on top of them.... now that is toasty

Call me idle, but I don't think I could quite be bothered to lovingly wax my leather gloves - doing the skis is quite enough. In what way are the Hestras "awesome"? Hard wearing? comfortable? Warm? Waterproof? Pamski, if the gloves don't keep you warm in Chichester then I'll not bother.

It doesn't take long to wax them at all and they are all of those things!

I have 2 pairs of Hestras, one Army leather (very warm and comfortable) the others are Leather Ski Cross (great for getting on and off easily during lessons).
However be aware that even Hestra gloves aren't bomb proof and if you're using them a lot you will wear them out - I have duct tape on both my right hand gloves because I wore holes in the thumb and index finger, probably from carrying skis all the time to and from lessons. Have had the Army Leathers for around 3/4 years and the Ski Cross for 2 to 3.
For a holiday skier (1/2 weeks a year) I guess they'll last for years but don't believe those adverts that suggest Hestras will last for decades seeing regular every day use!

Lizzard, shoogly, Mega gloves, same as mine, handy-hint - buy a pair of Icebreaker thin liner gloves, great when its -17C, they can start getting a bit wet if not in POW and cold hands aint great so liners a great addition as and when very rarely needed.

shoogly, mine are three years old , probably about 40-50 days skiing a year , looking nothing like that anymore , just removed a foot of snow from the car in them , warm as toast and the leather is pretty tough too. Enjoy.....my only issue is if you get a bit warm in the spring with them , had the liner come out in reverse once , bad news at 2500mtrs as it took about 20 minutes to get it back in properly so you could wear it , now know to be careful when taking off.
I have seen alot of backcounty guys using the three fingered version , may go for those next time.

Carry the skis from the bindings, or in such a way that the edges aren't cutting into the gloves then!

pam w, they're very nice. Exceeding warm, to the extent that you might want to take the liners out if you're skiing in April. If a seven fits you, I can do a better deal than S&R.

I had some and sold them - too stiff and too warm for me, but then I do tend to run hot.
They seem good quality, but don't get them too small as you'll need hands like Arnie in order to bend them enough to hold your poles. (boarders are excused)

Looked at the Hestras and at Marmot Work Gloves a few days ago - was more impressed by the Marmot. Good leather palm etc, but still flexible. Felt the Hestras were a bit like chain mail - while they may be tough as old boots, I want to be able to bend them and feel with them. So I'm going with the Marmots - and I can get them a lot cheaper (lived too long in Aberdeen !).

Yeah, perhaps but am guessing it's down to lots of picking up skis/snagging on edges - am spending a lot of time using said gloves. Not a particular prob though but just shows the gloves aren't as bullet proof as they sometimes claim though, c'est la vie!
