Poster: A snowHead
|
I'm considering booking this for early Jan 2011 for myself and my 9 year old daughter. This will be our 6th holiday with Esprit but would be our first in Italy with them.
I'm looking for feedback on their operation in Selva, the Chalet - quality and position and what 's feel the snow conditions are likely to be at that time of year given all the uncertainties of predicting snow conditions at anytime!
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Sorry Steve. Go to Selva every season, used Esprit for several years when our kid's were small. Possibly the nicest ski area in the World. How's that?

Early Jan is very snowsure. But then the Dolomites are for most of the season: IIRC something like 80% of pistes (and 99% of the circuit) are covered by cannon, so as long as it is cold enough overnight should be fine. Only evidence I've seen of Esprit in Selva is seeing the little ones in the restaurant at the top of Ciampinoi, and more advanced(!) ones on the way down - I'm just glad they seem to ensure the tail-end-charlie (Esprit staff) is a competent skier!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Just some feedback on Martra. The chalet is an pension hotel that Esprit have taken over, very retro looks, basic but functional, we had a really large room. Plenty of hot water and great shower. As with most chalets always too warm. Probably the best Esprit food we've had. Great position close to the bottom of the nursery slopes, minor problem that the road down to the main road was treacherous with ice but a small point.
As others have commented elsewhere it's a bit of a faff to get from the nursery slopes to the main lifts, two drags (little climb in between) and a steep walk to Dantecepies (sp) or drag, rope tow, drag, cross road, another drag then ski to Dantecepies. If going other side, two drags, ski path to centre, cross road and walk to Ciminapo (sp). Having said that the chalet was in a far better place than most of the accommodation in the village for this.
Other guests very friendly and helpful.
Verdict will probably go back

Thanks for that. I have been to Selva before and it is on our list to go back to. Now we have the girls that is a very likely location in the future.
