Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Adaptive Instructors/Tutors/Assistants - Whats the score?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
A friend of mine in BASI suggested I should do the adaptive course, I've had some experience helping a paraplegic group out a few years ago in France & thouroughly enjoyed the experience. I'm looking into the prospect of becoming an instructor with a view to working on a freelance or ad hoc basis over the winter season. I'm an avid advanced skiier & boarder too but not so hot on the boarding front yet!

Currently I'm a race circuit instructor (cars that is not slopes!) the car season pretty much comes ends just as the ski season starts & likewise as the ski season ends so the two disciplines fit well from a work point of view.

Obviously the BASI courses are the route to go but I'd be interested in gaining some experience or enlightenment be that volunteering or helping out to see what its all about.

Any advice or suggestions are welcome, are there any local adaptive groups in my area N Dorset?

Cptsideways, with regards gaining experience I'd suggest contacting DSUK.

The route to gaining your adaptive instructor qualfication with BASI starts with the Level 1 course, which would qualify you to teach on artificial slopes (eg dry slopes and snow domes). This is a 5 day course that can be done in the UK or mountains. If you're already a qualified L2 instructor in another discipline, you can go straight onto the 2 week L2 course, which is what you'll need to pass in order to teach in the mountains. You can read more on the BASI website here:
