I have booked a trip to with a well known TO for a double and a single room in a hotel (me, the wife and teenage daughter). I was just browsing the confirmation invoice I received once amount of holiday fully paid and have realised that the single room has no wc / shower and these are in fact shared. About to tell wife & daughter. It wasn't obvious when I booked - one had to click on "more info" to find out about the room facilities / layout but as I had stayed there before (in a double with facilities) I didn't give it any thought. Indeed the confirmation I received of the booking (not the final payment which was some months later) did not disclose this. I appreciate I have been the idiot here albeit with slightly mitigating circumstances.
Any suggestions how I prevent having my head lopped off by the female contingent in my household ?

Elect to be the one to take the single room!
Or - plead with the hotel, see if they've anything else

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Just tell 'em straight.
You're gonna have to share a scutty bathroom with strangers and will probably get foot disease.

dsoutar, just say "in my day we didn't have hotels, or water, or fancy food like chips. I didn't see a bathroom 'til I were 23 etc".

Most rooms may be en suite in any event so it may not matter. She can always use the shower in your room can't she?

dsoutar, alternatively, tell your daughter she can pay the difference to upgrade the room.

pam w, good one. I must practice that line in front of the mirror for the (airline) class warfare for our upcoming family trip to Oz.

Scold yourself for producing a spoilt child, some children dont have food, a loo to be shared is not the end of the world

My children were by no means deprived but I don't think any of them have ever had a bathroom to themselves on a ski holiday. Or any other kind of holiday (some of them on not very big boats, some of them camping) come to that. I recall a SH writing some time ago that their teenage daughter "wouldn't" stay in a Formule 1. Leave the spoilt little darling behind, I thought, or let her sleep in the car.
The point about paying the difference is a serious one. It's called opportunity cost. There is no opportunity cost if you pay. Even if you provide the dosh, if it's hers to spend, the principle applies. If you are quite determined that it would be too much hardship to share a bathroom (she'd better not want to ever do a season in a ski resort....) give her some holiday spending money (the exact amount an upgrade would cost); she can choose to spend it on upgrading the room, or spend it on other stuff in the resort, or elsewhere.

You know it makes sense.

be upfront....admit your failings.......tell them you are ashamed and can only compensate for your inadequacies by giving up your place and send them away together with a friend ........ then quietly book up a cheeky break with ski bunnys.... spot on ron..

+1
Of course it's nice to have your own facilities, but I've been in hostels / hotels on more than one occasion where 1 bathroom is shared between a whole floor of people. Although it isn't ideal, if that's how it is so be it.
If sharing a bathroom is such a catastrophe, let her use yours.

Blame it on the hotel...
Claim that they gave you no bathrooms at all but you haggled one out of them but couldn't get the 2nd... then you're the hero!

You were lucky. We lived for three months in a brown paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at six o'clock in the morning, clean the bag, eat a crust of stale bread, go to work down mill for fourteen hours a day week in-week out. When we got home, out Dad would thrash us to sleep with his belt!

Luxury, we used to live in a lake, every morning we to get up at six o'clock had to clean the lake, eat a handful of 'ot gravel, work twenty hour day at mill for tuppence a month, come home, and Dad would thrash us to sleep with a broken bottle, if we were lucky!
