Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
My Wife is a very timid 2 week skier, she is happy on easy blues and greens doing her mixture of snowplough/parallel turns and going very slowly.
For our upcoming ski trip do you think she would benifit from a Private lesson or 3 days of group lessons (cant really afford more private lessons) I know she would get more out of a PL but would probably enjoy the group more. I want her to have a good time and also to progress, hopefully losing the nervousness.
Also loking on the ski school websites, I cant see what catogry she would be in, she is not a complete beginner but cant ski all blues confidently?
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Where are you going? Makes a big difference. Unless you can get specialised small group tuition private lessons might be better but cost will vary hugely depending on destination and timing. Locally our private lessons cost 54 euros for two hours in low season and groups (up to 10) 83 - 94.
Will you be hiring skis? I've had to argue with hire shops to get nervous friends shorter skis than the 19 year old lads behind the counter want to dish out.

I'd go for the longer group lessons as I think having the maximum amount of instruction time would probably help at this stage.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

A disadvantage of group lessons is that if they are not well matched or well taught, she might be intimidated or just bored and not being pushed. On the other hand they can be more fun and enjoying yourself ought to be part of any holiday!
Go with the group lessons, monitor it closely and change to a private one if the first day doesn't go to plan.

We are hopefully going on a DIY trip to Saalbach in March.
My preference would be possibly a private lesson on day 1 followed by 3 days of group lessons. Do the group lessons normally start every day, or as seems to me they all start on Sundays which throws out the private lesson first idea.
and Pam yes we do need ski's for her, shes about 5'7 so I will keep an eye on the length of ski offered
