Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi!

I'm really new to skiing...as new as you can get. Well & someone just gave me a pair of skis that are quite old. They have old Marker M40 Sensomatic bindings. I realize these are outdated, but it they work, they work! After learning, I can get some newer skis. snowHead So hope an snowhead out there knows how to adjust these babies...cuz I tried!

Thanks a lot!

It's not quite that imple I'm afraid. Bindings, particularly older models, suffer from material degradation over time which is why each year the manufacturers produce an Indemnified Binding List which is list of all the bindings that are considered safe to use. Your bindings are not on that list so should not be used & no tech should adjust them as their insurance would be void should they fail.

Rent some modern skis/bindings whilst your learning & buy later.

spyderjon That's interesting, I wasn't aware of that. As some of us on here may sometimes use and old set of skis (eg for a Scottish trip Toofy Grin ) ) can you give us an idea of typically how many years elapse before the manufacturer takes them off that list (or better still post a link to the List if it's not industry confidential wink )

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You can continue to use non listed bindings at your own risk (personally I wouldn't) but the trade won't/can't touch them. I think the issue on the old stuff is primarily to do with plastics failures etc (cold/UV light etc) which is is why you'll still many old bindings of all metal construction still on the list. If you have an old binding that's still on the list I'd recommend, as with any binding, that it's regularly function/torque tested etc.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, I've learned more since posting...better to be safe as far as bindings go!
