Am off to Mayrhofen on 28th Dec for New Year week-any recommendations for a good bar/restaurant to spend New Years Eve? Never been there before and am looking for some good food that night in a place with a good atmosphere open until late.

I posted a few things about bars in Mayrhofen here. Possibly a few other suggestions there too. Mo's Bar might fit your bill - middle of the town on the main drag. You will need to book!
Be prepared to fight the Russian hordes......popular destination for them at NY.

There's an outside bar down the street from the Penken (called Coup & More), everyone congregates around that.

VolklAttivaS5, contact Dulcamara (or something similar) and SaraJ - they are both based out there permanently so will probably know more about what is actually being planned. Although there are the usual events, the locals sometimes plan fantastic one-off events which, by the time you hear about them, are totally sold out.

Mayrhofen is awesome over the new year!
Did it a couple of years ago and I really enjoyed it. We spent most nights (& mornings) in Schlüssl which is a bar/club over the bridge near the Penkenbahn.
We stayed in the Straß hotel and there is a bar downstairs which has live entertainment and is good for the older generation  .

VolklAttivaS5, there's an excellent and very lively/loud apres bar near the top of the Penken lift - not a bad stop to avoid the lift queues going down. Can't recall the name, but it's circular and glazed all round. Top atmos

Enjoy the fireworks New Years Eve and keep an eye out for the crazies firing rockets down the street, can get a little sketchy. Have a wicked time, we're in La Norma NYE so will be doing the conga and drinking free vin chaud again

Chasseur, are you saying then that it's better to have apres ski before getting the gondola down and then you miss the queues, do you know what time the last gondola down is?
