radar, Delays at Munich are caused by the planes not being where they should be - probably the same for all the other continental airports. checking both Salzburg and Munich all the flights are leaving and arriving from everywhere except Gatwick/Heathrow, Stansted flights seem to be arriving on time in Salzburg.
We have very cold temperatures and about 2 foot of snow in the lowlands, but it is cleared and everyone is looking forward to enjoying a bluebird day on the slopes or a Glühwein or two at the Christmas Markets. Off to Salzburg myself for Christmas shopping and an evening at the Weihnachtsmarkt

Seeing the BBC giving the BAA representative quite a hard time. BAA have kept the airport running. It's BA that have cancelled their flights. Other operators seem to be running...

Well the M1 is clear and East Midlands Airport has no snow at all. So if people want to fly today, it might be a good option. Looks like Luton and Stanstead, Leeds Bradford and Doncaster are operating normally too. But Birmingham has currently 'suspended operations' to clear the runway.
Looks like the snow is very localised in certain areas, more west than east this time round. Good luck to anyone travelling today.

it's not only snow, it's the ice too, isn't it. Just a very little ice will crash a plane. They do need to be pretty careful.

K8T, well it must depend on how long you are planning to be out for. Couple of days then not worth it - but if its for Christmas/a week or so then probably best thing to do - if you car is all prepared for the long haul though with chains etc, lots of food, drinks, blankets in the car too. Good luck!

Gatwick Airport reopened its runway at 1445, slightly earlier than planned, but it is warning passengers to check their flight status before travelling as many services have been cancelled or delayed.
British Airways has cancelled all shorthaul flights from Gatwick for the rest of the day and all its longhaul flights from the airport due to depart before 1700 have also been cancelled.
Heathrow Airport remains closed at least until 1600. BA has cancelled all shorthaul flights from the airport for the rest of the day and all longhaul flights due to depart before 1900.
Bmi has cancelled all its flights from Heathrow and from the rest of the UK to London until Sunday.
Heathrow said its teams were working to re-open one of its two runways at around 1600, but it urged passengers not to go to the airport until further notice.
Police have closed some access roads to Heathrow Airport.
Both British Airways and easyJet are offering passengers the option of re-booking on later flights or claiming a full refund. BA passengers due to fly from Heathrow or Gatwick on Sunday may also cancel or delay their travel plans without incurring additional fees.
Other airports to have closed runways include Birmingham (until 1700) and Bournemouth (until 1600). Southampton has just re-opened.
Manchester Airport closed between 1100 and 1145 for snow clearing, but it is now re-open. The duty manager said some flights have been cancelled and some others have been delayed, but the airport is expecting to remain open for the rest of the day.
London Stansted remains open but the airport is warning of some delays and cancellations. London City is also open but the airport said passengers should check their flight status with the airline or check the airport website.
The BBC is reporting 'mayhem' at Aberdeen, Bristol, Exeter, Cardiff and at London City airports. Exeter closed earlier today but the runway is now open, although the airport admitted it was suffering delays and cancellations.
Some airports that were closed yesterday have re-opened, including Belfast International, but severe weather across Europe is disrupting flights to many destinations including France, Italy, Germany, Denmark and Amsterdam.
All air passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport and leave extra time for their journeys due to difficult driving conditons.
Additional snow ploughs have arrived at Gatwick and the airport said earlier this morning that it aimed to have them operational later this afternoon.
Easyjet, which cancelled all Gatwick flights until 1000 and is advising of possible further cancellations and delays to other flights throughout today.

I wouldn't like to fly to Calgary from Gatwick today, nearly 7 hours delay and counting, in contrast to Manchester which was delayed by 3 hours, worst off all that backlog is immense! It could take well into tomorrow morning to clear that!
