Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sorted - 26 hour slog, here we go!

OK, so we have heard that out flight has been cancelled for certain tomorrow (even though the rain has washed the snow away - stupid Heathrow!), and we've managed to get a foot passenger booking for the 1300 ferry out of Dover - landing at Calais c.1630.
Big question - what is the cheapest way to get anywhere near the Grand Massif from Calais? We've been told that we should be aiming for Cluses, stationwise, but we are all for coaches etc if it's cheaper? Travelling pretty light as skis etc are already there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't help much, but suggest you change the title of the thread to mention you would like a lift, if indeed you would.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I hadn't even thought of asking for a lift! If anyone is heading towards the alps and would be up for giving us a lift, that would be amazing!

Overnight sleeper via paris to cluses looks to be E138 per person, which isn't awful for the distance concerned? No idea on coaches.....

Personally I'd be temped to wait for your airline to reschedule you if cost is a concern, short notice travel across france isn't super cheap!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The earliest we could get rebooked was the 27th. Sleeper was full when we tried to book, so we've ended up doing the slow train from Calais to Paris, followed by an almost 8 hour "sleep on the platform", and then the train to Geneva, where we have managed to arrange a lift. Total cost of £250 quid for the train Neutral Still, it means we get to spend Christmas with the whole family, rather than sat at home, paying for the cats to be in the cattery, and with all our gifts already in France!

26 hour slog commences at 0830 tomorrow from sunny, sunny Kingston!

adamantis, good luck. Sounds like a marathon. We are headed the same way but by car, dodgy Eurotunnel, etc etc.
