Thinking of this place for 2nd January.
Taking 5 month old, so need to stay low, but this would allow access to 3 Valleys. Taking Granny as babysitter through the day. Is there much for her to do in Brides-les Bain?
Anyone stayed in the hotel?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

I've stayed there for an overnight when I had an 8 day trip and the accommodation in Tignes would only do complete weeks.
It's a nice hotel with a decent restaurant and helpful staff. Strangely enough there was a party of middle-aged Welsh-speakers there when we were. Not a language I have heard anywhere else in the Alps but I don't suppose it's a regular feature.
Can't tell you much about the town as it was strictly a night stop on the way up the mountain for us.
And by coincidence I'll be doing the night stop thing again on New Year's Day 2011. (That's 11 days from now).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Did exactly the same
The hotel is near to the lift up the mountain but we drove it, takes a little while up and down

My recollection is that there is not a lot for Granny to do, especially if she is not into thermal baths!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

...or gambling. There's a big casino there. But, frankly, there is little else to do other than a bit of mouching and sitting in the nice park.
We've stayed in Les Sources up the road a few times and quite like Brides. The big advantage for us flatlanders is its low altitude. This makes for a good night's sleep but many hate the 22 minute ride up and down in the gondola. Note that this starts 30 minutes before the other lifts so you don't lose any skiing at the beginning of the day. However, it is a pain at the end of the day though as there is no time to linger by the slopes for vins chaud. You HAVE to make that last lift down.

Hotel pretty popular with clients from what I heard. Does not look like much from the outside but good location. Nice owner. Like Hotel du Golf in Brides myself. Otherwise if stuck for space we often have rooms at the Grand Hotel des Thermes even for the most busy dates like 2 Jan.
