Skied there in '99 for a day while staying in Vail - from what I remember (the day we skied there visibility was poor) most if not all of the skiing isw above the tree line and more advanced/expert focussed than many of the surrounding resorts. I dont rmember there being much at the base area. Definately worth a trip if you are staying at Vail/Breckenridge/Keystone, but not somewhere I would choose to base myself.

The time that I visited A-basin in March a year or so ago, there had been a series of sunny days without much snow. A-basin was icy moguls and crust as they do little piste bashing due to the nature of the ski area (low cost/minimum expense). This should not be a problem in warmer weather when the sun will soften the crust. Used a lot by locals.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

A friend who skiied there said you could get stoned in the car park just by breathing the air

I accused ssh of deeply unimaginative naming when he first mentioned A-basin

RachelQ, When I skied there I had read that it was the highest skiing on the continental divide, know I understand what that means
