Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Short break to Chamonix

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
So Chamonix looking increasingly like a great option for a short break in Jan/early Feb, as a result I have a few questions:

- Best/cheapest way of getting to resort from Geneva?
- Best area of the valley/town to have easiest access to the slope?
- If we tick above, how far are we from the nightlife?
- Any recommendations for short break accomm either catered or non?

Hoping the collective snowHead can help with any other useful tips too please!

Thanks

MoodyFFS, Any one of the numerous transfer co's will do it for around 25 euro incl. Chamexpress who hangs around here. Where to stay is a tricky one, if you want to be handy for GM then Argentiere is the obvious choice, but for the nightlife then go for Cham center and use the buses, or ski at Brevent on balance Chamonix town is better.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

jbob, so better to be in town and get bus to slopes than vice-versa?

I would say so, the lift for Brevent is in Chamonix town, but GM is a bus ride up the valley in Argentiere, it has a 3/4 bars and a crap club, its OK if your focused on the skiing, but transport is not good in the evening so if you want to enjoy the flesh pots of Cham, stay in town.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Stay in Chamonix, use the ski bus to get to the ski areas and you're still near the nightlife - Chambre Neuf in Cham for apres; The Office in Argentiere and numerous late night bars in Chamonix (Le Choucas Puzzled etc..) - sorry can't rememeber much it's be a few years since I've been there. I managed to find a flat using Interhome I've been.

Aren't Brevent, Flegere and Le Tour linked together these days - I could be wrong, probably am Confused

MoodyFFS,

- Best/cheapest way of getting to resort from Geneva?

Loads of transfer companies, try haute transfer for example

- Best area of the valley/town to have easiest access to the slope?

If in Chamonix, you want to be near the Brevent bubble. If you're in Argentiere, you want to be near the Grands Montets. For my money, you want to be in Cham centre for fun.

- If we tick above, how far are we from the nightlife?

Well, for example, our apartments are 3 minutes from the Brevent bubble (in ski boots) and 3 minutes from the centre of town.

- Any recommendations for short break accomm either catered or non?

Loads of good cheap little hotels...

MoodyFFS, sadly, we are mostly full and don't do short breaks. Lots of good, clean basic hotels though...

The drive from Geneva is so easy and quick, and it's so nice to have a car in Chamonix, thus not having to rely on buses. I would hire a car if the funds run to it (and stay in Chamonix.)
