Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Heel pads for children?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All,

My son has just been diagnosed with a achilles problem that requires some heel inserts to relieve; I'm really struggling to find any that will fit his shoes and various sports shoes and boots, and was wondering if anyone knows where I might get some; we've been looking for some kids version of these:

Anyone????

scooby_simon, try Algeos, noticed they have a paediatric section http://www.algeos.com/acatalog/Pediatric_Orthotics.html I have achilles problems and my orthopaedic consultant told me to get a night splint I got it from there, fast service, reasonable price, worth a look. I suspect my son needs orthotics too I was talking to my physio about it the other day I am going to get him checked.

scooby_simon, i would avoid the gel pads and look at something a little more structured, superfeet blue of black insert should fit into all his shoes...what was the problem?? most achillies problems in children are around the growth plate, a gel pad may lift the foot and take some of the strain away but it will not stabilise the foot and help the problem (treats the symptoms not the problem)

CEM, Yep; it is around the growth plate; pressure on the back of the heel is painful.

severs or calcaleal apothicites, seperation of the growth plate from the main porttion of the heel bone,(internet diagnosis based on what i see frequently) support it well, reduce the sport for a whileand it will heal in a bit, tends to be self limiting ...guess he is 12-14 years old then??

CEM, He's 9 1/2; but plays footy for School and local club, very active; was skiing twice a week at Welwyn (race training and playing); Tennis and various other things; Hopefully the "rest" of Christmas will help.

ok so on the young end of the spectrum where it can happen, get him on a pair of the superfeet blue off the shelf insert, it will give a good level of support and help with the recovery, you won't stop him running about but you can reduce the amount and help with the support

you can get them form most outdoor or ski shops make sure they are sized up properly
