Help please.Had a mad moment and booked bargain flights into Lyon and then back from Geneva without knowing where we wanted to ski!
The problem is the need to transfer without hiring a car ,preferably by public transport for cheapness.
Thought it would be easy to work out but proving a nightmare.
Kind of managed Bourg for Les Arcs but difficult journey and not budget.
Resort needs to be high etc for week of 9 April -we are intermediate skiers.
Really worried we will blow most of our accommodation budget on transfers unless someone can think us up some clever bus/train plan. The only good news is that we arrive early and leave late.
Thanks for your thoughts.

pishposhpeshy, Dates? I hope you booked weekend/weekend if you are hoping to find budget accommodation in France...
Yes, transfers are very expensive - usually as much as the flight, more if the flights are v cheap.
How many of you are there? if there are 4, hiring a car might be the cheapest way, though having to do one way hire will increase the cost - and will mean you need to get a car from the French side of Geneva, to leave in Lyon. The public buses to resorts are pretty expensive - and not always frequent, either.
There are some good value transfers to Chamonix from Geneva and plenty of accommodation there for all budgets - but will cost you more to get back to Lyon.

pishposhpeshy, As pam w says dates/times would help.
Pam, I think they are into Lyon and out of Geneva. I would suggest choosing somewhere with good transfers to Geneva so that you get the grief over with first then go and ski to chill you out. Grand Massif would be be possible but if you want higher Chamonix perhaps as Pam suggests? One way car hire might be a good choice - late in the season gives you penty of flexibility.

Lyon St Exupéry airport to Lyon costs around 13euro and takes less than 30 minutes by express tram. Lyon to Les Houches -Chamonix-les Praz -Argentiere-Vallorcine takes from 4 to 4 1/2 hours by train and costs from 35euro to 42euro. So Lyon to to the Chamonix valley costs from 48euro. The train takes you also to St Gervais.
Chamonix valley to Geneve airport costs 25euro with ChamExpress minibus transfers.
48 + 25 = 73euro for total transfers. But it might be cheaper to do rental Lyon airport to Geneva airport, if you are a large group.

But make sure you hire a car from the French side of Geneva airport, otherwise you will be slaughtered with an additional drop off fee for returning the car to a different country
