Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

For the last couple of years Ryanair had free ski carraige I think it was normally on offer once you booked flight around sept oct. Was free carraige available on their site this year ?

Not when I looked about 3-4 weeks ago - O'Leary would be charging for the fresh air on the planes if he could (I'm sure its in next years business plan)......... there's plenty of other threads on this, but Lufthansa, BA, Swiss are best IMO for cheap ski carriage...........after O'Learys un-customer-focused reaction after the ash-cloud debacle he'll never be getting his hands on my hard earned cash in future..........I know its not easy travelling to the Alps from ROI so sympathy with the Ryan Air situation, not easy I guess.

Not from what I could see. They managed to conjure up a total of £270 for a flight to Salzberg with one bag and skis in the hold, and that was for the pleasure of a 6.30am flight from Stanstead. Screw them. They're a disgrace to commerce.

Garfield, er, no, safe to say. I do have the advantage of living 1/2 hour from Heathrow, and Gatwick only an hour, so I appreciate I have plenty of choice. But that doesn't alter Urine-air's shameless fleecing. I avoid them at all costs, I'll even pay a little more to go with another carrier if the options are similar.

kendub, I've checked regularly, and I'm pretty sure that there has been no such offer ( which I've used extensively in past years). Easy Jet dropped the "free skis" last year so you can bet that Ryan Air will do the same this year. Unless of course they all start to panic!

BMI are part of the alliance with Swissair hence free ski carriage.

Be warned an Easyjet victim (passenger) last week was travelled from LWG to Marseille with no pre-booked baggage -just a seat so a 20kg bag (BA =23Kg) plus 5 or so kg extra came up at £88 extra on top of the >£110 fare. My wife escorted the victim to the clutches of Nastyjet and despite being a seasoned travel industry vet was gobsmacked by their commercial insensitivity. The same flight with luggage via BA was less than a third of the price but due to a family crisis the extra 4 hours or so made this passenger "easyprey" Embarassed Embarassed

I got free ski carriage twice last year to Memmingen, didn't see it this year and normally see their emails weekly. You have got to love O'Leary he seems to love a bit of a battle. One of his best racehorses is called War of Attrition and another one that I backed to win at Cheltenham this year is Weapons Amnesty, well named.

I wonder what O'Leary would be like as our Taoiseach or Prime Minister in UK, would be interesting!

So basically, you are saying they were a "victim" because they were a moron. that description can reasonably be applied to anybody who turns up for an Easyjet flight with no booked luggage, but with a bag that will clearly need to go in the hold.

And presumably, your wife has not traveled using any cheapish airline in the last 5 years or so, if she could be "gobsmacked" by this (or she has only traveled with you, and you have been insulating her from this). (not at all sure what your phrase "commercial insensitivity" is supposed to imply).

Jivebaby,

For once I agree with alex_heney.
The guy turns up with no pre-booked luggage and 5kg over the limit at a low cost-airline check-in... I don't see how they can complain about the extra charged..
Catch any regular airline on a bad day and they'll also happily charge you for your excess baggage..

Shocked Laughing

Easyjet online booking procedure is quite clear and says you will pay more if you elect to pay for checked in baggage at the airport - it even reminds you about this whilst booking and gives the chance to add luggage if you inadvertently leave the checked-in baggage as 'zero'. Anyone who does not include luggage in the booking at this stage and decides to do so when checking in at the desk can not expect too much sympathy imho Little Angel

It would have been similar or more if the same thing had happened with Ryanair

I don't get why people pick on the budget airlines. As with everything in this world, you don't get anything for nothing!
You just have to play the game by their rules, take little or no luggage, print your own tickets, expect poor service especially if the flight is cancelled.
You pay your money you take your chances, they're cheap fares for a reason. I personally don't use them very often, doesn't usually work out cheaper if I'm taking my skis, and I never use them if I have to be somewhere, but great for summer holidays where all you need is hand luggage with a pair of shorts and a spare t-shirt (ok maybe a few more items).

Thats my rant over. As you were Very Happy

Last 2/3 winters flew with RA to Alps and Pyrennes airports. Once you get the free ski carraige and a cheap flight, great value. This year without the free ski carraige, it's back to a package ski deal
