You see a guy skiing the Headwall (from about 37 seconds on), he triggers a slide (need to turn sound up to hear the conversation) then at about 2:10 they go to inspect the debris.
Mountains looking good though eh?

The skier dealt with the situation well I thought.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Pretty amazing piece of video, not least that someone caught it all on camera like this, thanks for posting it.
Yeah he survived and managed to ski out so dealt with what could have been a nasty situation well but hairy or what - very lucky bloke if you ask me!
Yup Bode Swiller mountains looking damned good, especially this early in the season!
I'm a bit disappointed that nobody else has commented on this footage - I would have thought it was of interest to a few people here ... and I was looking forward to reading their sage comments (and perhaps learning something)
Nobody?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

roga, If I'd entitled it Avalanche Ate My Winter Tyres we might have got some traction.
To be honest I think some will look at that slide and think it looked pretty slow-moving and innocuous. The skier appeared to out-ski it which is unusual and as a spectacle it wasn't very dramatic. So it would be unfortunate if it left the impression that it wasn't a serious threat to life & limb and that all avalanches were like that.
Thanks for this Bode Swiller - extraordinary that it was roga but I'm not feeling very sage right now.
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

I saw the vid. Scariest part was the typical light Scottish breeze...

They're very lucky it wasn't worse.

I'm slightly surprised that someone looked at the wind direction, the amount of snow transport and then made that particular terrain choice.
Glad no one got mangled.

LOL, or "Wearing a helmet saved me from avalanche death" - that'd really start something!

Yeah, fair point but even the guys on the spot seemed surprised when they got to the bottom of the debris field and saw how much had come down. For me the lesson is even the most innocuous looking avalanche can be dangerous - was it 14cm of soft slab he said?

D'you reckon they were scousers then?
andytb, I thought it was a pretty lucky escape despite the slide looking pretty minor - being swept into those boulders wouldn't have been pleasant for sure!
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

As others have said, if the skier had got taken down by the slide the outcome would have been ugly with the run out into the Cas boulderfield. Fortunately no harm done and a timely reminder to all, certainly snow streaming of the Plateau rim like that should ring alarm bells about the potential slab build up.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Only just saw this thread. Very interesting video. Could have been a lot worse. I liked the little handle saw one of you had. Where can you buy that.
You know it makes sense.

Did he dig the pit after the slide or before?
