Poster: A snowHead

I'm thinking of buying 4 2-way radios for the family to use skiing/walking/cycling etc but I don't know which to go for. I understand that the Motorola ones are supposed to be the best, but they are a bit pricey. Does anyone have any experience or opinions on any other radios on the market (binatone, bt, oregon etc)

I bought a pair of the BT Freeway Pro's in Feb for £55 inc double charger & earpieces. Used them for a week in La Rosiere. They were excellent although I've never tried any other makes/models.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I have a pair of Motorolas and a pair of Binatones. Performance is indistinguishable, so far. Both are useful in the mountains, but they have obvious limitations.

I bought a pair of BT Freeway's on Ebay for £17.50 (including post and packing) from a supplier (ex-demo). I believe that he still does them from time to time.
They did not come with a charger or earpeaces etc but run on normall AAA batteries (four per handset).
We have used them a few times skiing and on other occasions and work well.
For example I had a conversation with my wife when I was on the top of Holn Slave and she was a the bottom of the main gondola at Soll, Austria.

Thanks for the warm (or should that be cold !) welcome
Forgot to say that all these radios SHOULD work on the same frequences. Therefore you can mix and match between manufacturers (and I have between the BT and Motorola ones on a few occasions).

This is true if you are mixing US radios with US radios or European radios with Europeans radios - but does not apply if mixing US radios with European radios as different frequencies are available for public use in the different areas. So be careful if you are tempted to get them cheap over the internet.

US personal radios are illegal in Europe they interfere with emergency frequencies.
