Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Jackson Hole 2009-10

Poster: A snowHead
Arrived in Jackson Hole yesterday and ventured out to Teton Village and our first ski today.
Recent snowstorms that have hit much of the rest of the US have not come to JH and consequently snow conditions are rather patchy.
They do have all the lifts open but only about a third of the trails are open and most of the steeper stuff and the runs through the trees are closed - and for good reason: very limited snowcover. Most of the open trails have been groomed and given the lack of any depth to the snowbase conditions were actually quite good and we enjoyed runs from the Bridger Gondola, Casper, Apres-vous and Thunder quad. (We're saving the Tram for later in the week!) The forecast is for the weather to stay cold and clear which is the good news. The bad news is no significant new snow is forecast until next week. Talking to locals the conditions at Grand Targhee are much better so might head out there later in the week. But tomorrow we're going snowmobiling into Yellowstone Park to see 'Old Faithful'...vroom, vroom!

Just back from Jackson Hole, and the conditions were plenty good enough for us to have great fun but the place could do with more snow.

- All the greens, blues and double blues were in great condition - although, inevitably, these often became pretty polished by the end of each day.
- Despite the heavy snowfall on 10-12 Feb, the blacks on the lower mountain were generally incredibly hard packed and were really only enjoyable in the afternoon when the sun had softened things a little
- The upper mountain single blacks were mostly covered with soft, powdery bumps. A couple of thin patches were emerging by the end of the trip, but these were easily avoided
- The double blacks were often closed and generally disappointing when open. Every run we tackled had areas of exposed rock and a fair level of technical competence was generally needed to avoid equipment damage. Didn't hold us back, though... Toofy Grin
- Corbett's, distressingly, remained closed all week so I didn't get the chance to make a fool of myself
