Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

re mounting bindings

I'm looking at secondhand skis at the mo but so far nothing has come up that I fancy with bindings allready mounted for my size boots (I've got small feet).

So 2 questions:

1) Will re mounting a binding for smaller boots cause any issues? (is this a bad idea? what do you do about the old holes?)

2) How are bindings mounted? (I know you can pay a ski shop to do it but what do they actually do? and can i do it myself?)

I've had it done before and it's caused no problems - just make sure the skis haven't been remounted before.

Unless you have an appropriate jig or template (and are very good at drilling just the right depth) I wouldn't recommend it, best to pay for a professional to do it IMHO.

Basically all you need is there (provided you have bindings on that list).

Having said that, after fitting bindings myself I understand why you need a beer or two, it's bloody hard work and maybe worth handing over a couple of quid to the saturday boy at slush and rock who has the template.

I am looking for some ski bindings for some park skis (Line Anthems which are 93 mm wide). Can you fit a Salomon Z12 SC rail type binding to these or are they only for Salomon skis? The skis are for my son who is 14 and growing fast so bindings which have a lot of adjustment seem a good idea. Any advise would be welcome.
