Poster: A snowHead
|
My 11yr old is growing out of his skis and we are looking to replace for Christmas. We spoke briefly to our ski shop friend back in April about prospective next skis for him and I think he mentioned Rossingnol RSX as a good all round ski for him (although listed as GS), coming out for this season.
I have seen a very reasonably priced pair of 2008 Rossis here

He likes to do a bit of everything - mainly piste, trails through trees, a little park and will have occasional afternoon with instructor who will take him off the beaten track/off piste. Competent at all runs (so far) and enjoys speed when allowed. He will require 150cm. Has enjoyed his Salomon Fish twin tips but not essential to have twins next time.
EDIT or thoughts on anything else that might be good. Have also been looking at the K2 Juvy which seems to fit the bill and comes up to 149cm

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Lou, Very good price, can you go wrong for that price? Same skis at other places nearly £100 more. If you still fancy the Juvy have a ring round S&R I picked up a pair over the summer in the sale for about £115 incl bindings which I was very pleased with

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Both mine are on K2 Juvy's and are both doing well on them. They seem sound skis and the kids have had good fun on them.

I'd avoid them for what your kids are looking for... They are FIS race stock giant slalom ski's not all rounders, They'd be no use in the park and not very practical unless he is keen on getting into racing! They also don't include any bindings...
If he's looking for a ski that will let him have fun in the park, on the piste/off the piste the k2's would probably be a much better choice.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Jamesc, they do include bindings.

Ahh apologies my comments still stand about the ski being unsuitable, Its designed for racing and meets FIS regs etc, completely impracticle even for messing around in the park etc.

Thanks all. I'm going to look at the K2s - they should follow on nicely from what he has now.

Lou, I actually bought some of these for my son last year when he was 11. He used them pretty well everywhere, including deep snow but he is not a park fan though. They are really fast on the piste too ! The one thing that I would flag up is that, and I assume this is a function of them being race skis, is that they are not the usual "cap" construction but are more what I would call "sandwich" construction and do seem to show damage quite quickly.
Having said that he skied on them for 5 weeks last season and they will do a few more weeks yet I am sure. So I guess for £150.....

skitow, young Arctic Monkey quite liked the sound of them after our friend recommended probably because he loves speed. But I have been reminding him of the other things he loves to do too (and doing the parent bit too reminding him that there are limited opportunities for speed unless he wants to race properly ). I see that he has downloaded a picture of the K2s as a screensaver.....

If that's the picture of the Cobra as on my kids' pairs it's a neat picture!
