Snow Reports
FAQ
Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

National avalanche bulletin
valid through Tuesday, 19 October 2010
issue date 15.10.2010, 18:30 hours
Snowfall down to 1000 m, escalating avalanche danger
Current conditions
In high alpine regions there is already a cohesive, area wide snowpack. Snow also blankets north facing slopes above approximately 2600 m which in some places is faceted. On the uppermost surface there is often a crust with surface hoar on top of it.
Development
On Saturday, 5 to 10 cm of snowfall is anticipated. The snowfall level is expected to drop from 1500 down to 1000 m. Light to moderate velocity winds will be blowing, shifting from northwesterly to northerly. On Sunday along the northern flank of the Alps and in Grisons, 15 to 30 cm of snowfall is expected, elsewhere 5 to 15 cm of new fallen snow. The snowfall level will be 800 m. The northeasterly wind is expected to be strong particularly in northern regions.
Snowdrift accumulations are expected to form which will be rather poorly bonded with the old snowpack.
