Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi
Our kids have had most of their ski lessons on France so far under the ESF. They've done the Piou Piou, Flocon, Ourson and First Bronze Star.
We're off to Switzerland at half-term and the on-line booking for the ski school wants to know what level they're at (according to this: http://www.snowsports.ch/de/sss/ssle/ski/). Anyone got any ideas about equivalence between ESF and Swiss? I guess if we were back in France we'd put them in the 2* class.
I'm sure this has been answered before but a quick search didn't give me the answer - happy to be pointed at a previous discussion
I do know the ski school will move them if we get it wrong but it's less disruptive for us and them if we get close to the right level.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Higs, glad you asked this as we are also likely to be going to CH and only have experience of French ski school systems. If I can find an ESI school I will try to use it otherwise will have to navigate the swiss system which seems to be full of princes, kings and queens of varying colours last time I looked, very confusing!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Colin B, I remember that one! It's interesting.
I think what would be useful though is an equivalence chart which compares all the different systems along the lines of for example ESF 1 star = Swiss ?? = Austrian ?? = Italian ?? and so on and so on for the different systems and for all grades from kindergarten levels to competition levels. I don't suppose such a thing exists?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The link by Colin B explains the older style Swiss snow league.
It has lost the 'candidate' ranks, now it goes Snowgarden, Blue prince, king, star, Red prince, king, star. And black are the specialist things (freestyle, offpiste etc) By the time the kiddos are red star they probably ski better then you... and me
Lets try (should work, I have worked for a swiss ski school):
1ere Etoile looks similar in level to the Blue star in current swiss system.
Swiss system explained.. in german unfortunately (I have a booklet in english if anybody is interested, please let me know)
