Anyone know of any companies that provide winter sports or "activities" cover without the travel portion?
I'm going to be living in another country for a couple of months most travel insurance only covers you if you are resident in the UK.
I suppose a backpackers insurance might work?

ihi Bupa - www.ihi.com - might be able to help although not if the other country is the US, unless you are maintaining a UK address. It does do insurance for most other countries, though.

Aren't the lift pass insurance prices expensive?
Yeah, I remain UK resident but a lot of these insurers only cover trips of 45 days max.
Maybe backpackers cover longer but then they add random restrictions like max 14 ski days or equivalent.
Arno - the usual, medical, rescue, etc. on piste and also the occasional off piste but with guide.

GordonFreeman, an annual multi trip with a 60 day limit "any one trip" limit would probably work. Most can allow generally 17 - 31 days ski within that. Or are you sliding every day?

Will be in Spain - can probably check out the insurance with lift pass if they do it.

GordonFreeman, if you're skiing in Spain, Carte Neige is particularly irrelevant. It is valid worldwide, but if you use it outside France you have to pay costs upfront and wait for reimbursement. I have no idea whether Spanish resorts sell insurance with the lift pass - best have a look at the website for the resort in question.

GordonFreeman, you may find that ski pass insurance only provides "local" cover (a la Carte Neige) - if it's only couple of months I'd think any decent annual policy would do, you aren't going to change your "residency" for a couple of months are you?

ihi Bupa covers everything except motorsports and you can get it by the day for up to a year for single trip insurance. I've used it in the US when I was teaching skiing and still had a UK address. It covers 100% medical, and other stuff such as repatriation, flying someone out to be with you, etc.

GordonFreeman, I live in Spain and as such I cannot get UK insurance due to the fact that they will only repatriate to the UK!! daft I know, (road transport is cheaper than UK air ambulance) So my solution is to cover mountain rescue with the Austrian Alpine club and medical cover with the Spanish provider Sanitas who include repatriation. Sporting goods are covered by my household insurance.
Where are you planning to ski? If it is Andorra, they can include insurance for €42 with a season pass, but it is not transportable out of Andorra.
