With heavier and lower snow than expected (it is snowing down to valley level in much of the Rhone-Alpes) it seems to be another Saturday of traffic misery with the Lyon Grenoble motorway cut this morning.

 This photo taken at 8am up at Tignes les Boisses (1850m) this morning, of the Hotel les Mélèzes.
Transfers could be interesting today! Pouring with rain in Bourg St Maurice since the early hours. Gradually trasformed into sleet at 800m by 10am, now it's snowing heavily. 30cms on average around the Alps overnight, plenty more expected with the snowline dropping even further. Mind you, it's unlikely to settle much below 1600m, the ground is pretty warm now.

The Fréjus tunnel was closed at lunchtime today, in both directions, because of the heavy snowfall. Vehicles are being diverted via the Mont Blanc tunnel. On the likes of the RN75, RN85 and RN91, linking the Grenoble area to the Isère and Hautes Apes resorts, winter tyres or chains are compulsory at the moment.

A lot of snow to the west of you too; I wonder how Greg was getting to resort?

The autoroute between chambery and geneva is now cut by snow. The police are advising people not to travel today with long delays on both road, air and rail.

I just looked at renting a car on may 8th from Europcar @ GVA and it still had winter tyres included. Hope that helps!

well we are back, Lyon to La Tania was fine, but the guys going Geneva to La Tania got delayed! Had a great weeks skiing powder, and spring snow!
