Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Prophet 100 length recommendation?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

Grateful for a bit of advice - I am getting some Line Prophet 100's but can't decide between 179 and 186.

I am 6ft, 75kg, 27 y/o and fairly aggressive. I want to be able to ski this most places - I ski off piste whenever possible but that doesn't mean I'm charging powder bowls all day, more the variable terrain - so it has to perform reasonably well in the trees, bumps and crud etc. This would be an everyday ski flanked (as funds allow) with a piste ski and a more pure powder ski.

For reference I demo'd the mantra in the 177, found it too stiff in the powder but otherwise good. I have skied the Armada ARV 175's a few time, they are ok but want something a bit more substantial and floaty. I'm probably not going to be able to demo the Prophets except at MK.

The posts of TGR suggest everyone should be on the 186s, but then they also seem to think anything less than 3m and 200mm under foot are for midgets - so not much use. Although they do say the Prophets ski really short which makes me wonder.

I spoke to a former Line rep who said the 179's are the sweet spot for this ski, the most versatile and the gain in the powder of the 186 was outweighed by the maneuverability of the 179s which he thought would be a more fun and useable ski.

Views much appreciated!!

As your light for your height you would get away with the 179! but as above man up and get the 186 Razz

If (as you say) you're gonna get a bigger ski too I'd be tempted by the 179 (especially as you're pretty light).

Thanks for all the responses.

To summarise the advice I've received so far:

179:
Why? Versatility, slightly more maneuverable (trees, bumps), more of an all mountain look that will cope as a powder ski initially then usurped by something more manly.
Who? S&R, EB, Snowlab, Smallzookeeper, Line rep, a few guys here

186:
Why? It skis short, length is more suited to powder ski, be a man
Who? Majority of guys here and TGR

I have no doubt 186 will be the superior powder ski. However given it also has to perform elsewhere, I am leaning to believe the 179 won't give too much away (given my weight) in the pow, whilst being more useable elsewhere. Conversely I want to make sure it is more of a ski than the ARV 175s which I found inadequate in slight heavy conditions in La Grave, for example.

Fair to say I'm very much undecided!! EB at MK have the 179 to test so will do that, but unlikely to get a definitive answer in those conditions I feel. Puzzled Puzzled

frogman, it might.

Try the 186 too. If you like it in a fridge, you'll love it on the hills.

Remember, it is a twin tip. So it feels shorter on piste, yet longer off piste.
