Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salomon Origins Crystal

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,
we need to buy skis for my girlfiend. I've tried few different calculators and got different results every time. So question is how to choose right lenght.
She is 3'5", 99 lbs, beginner/low intermediate

We looking for all mountain easy riders:)
She likes Salomon's Origins Crystals(I know it's not about the color - womens!) but question is what lenght would you recomend for her?
Calculators results: 145-164 cm

Thanks.

Welcome to snowheads.

I guess you mean 5'3" rather than 3'5"??

That would be 160 cm and for her skiing level I would not go longer than 145 cm.

My wife has some Origin Diadems which she likes. She's 5'4" and skis the 145 cm.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

To me 'beginner/low intermediate' means 'don't buy, hire'. At that stage of her skiing development she is likely to improve rapidly, and the skis which are right for her now may be inadequate in no time.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Yes sorry she is 5'3". She did hire last year and had some lessons after few days she was ok on greens and easy blues (not to steep).

Hello again,

small amendment. She is 164cm

Does it make any difference. As well someone told to my girlfriend that it's better to buy skis with wooden core not composite?
What is your view on this?
Origins Crystal do have composite core.

As far as I know, wooden cores last longer (ie the ski maintains its original flex characteristics for a longer period of actual use). For my skis, I would always get a wooden core. For your girlfriend, I don't think she will end up skiing the things so much and so aggressively to result in the core losing flex properties. Just pick whichever ones she enjoys skiing (and looking at) - will save you trouble.

My wife tested Salomon Origins and a Volkl model (can't remember which, a beginner - intermediate one) with a wooden core. She preferred the Salomons but of course everyone is different.

I still think at her level 145 cm, 150 tops.
