Poster: A snowHead

If you want the ultimate in gearhead geekiness go along to see Tony at edge2win for a race ski tuning session....
I had a full day training session this week and he really went into all the little details that can make the difference when racing, or, trying to hold an edge on an icy piste.
We first of all checked out all my tools to make sure they were up to scratch and he even tested my iron to make sure it was at the right temperature, not trusting the dial on the iron. Tony works for an F1 team and when you bring the attention to detail that a world class motor racing team has to tuning skis you get an appreciation for what sharp well prepared skis can do for your skiing. If you really want to understand the nuts and bolts of tuning and learn how to tune your skis to get the absolute best edges, waxing and base prep he definitely knows his stuff...

skimottaret, It's good enough for me. I've done the spyderjon version which kept me going last winter with 3 pairs to do.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

skimottaret, Please take care then if carring them over your shoulder, have seen a really nasty facial wound cause by WC techs and their handy work by on a coach carring several pairs down a hill, lets say he used two sets of cuttlery that evening to take advantage of multiple entry points for the evening buffett.

Freddie Paellahead, Woops. Travel iron I first tried was just the opposite, it hardly melted the wax.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Freddie Paellahead, you need the £5 ASDA iron (non travel) with a temp dial. Don't think it's calibrated though - I use the 'smoke test'.

Freddie Paellahead, well you obviously weren't cutting the grass while the bases were burning.

You know it makes sense.

Wow!! Those skis are trashed!!
Depending on how bad the lift is in other areas you could ask a ski tech to re-patch the area - however the ski will need to be checked firstly for distortion.
Personally I would cut the ski in half and have a look on the inside and the manufacturer lay up depending on what spec of ski it is - but then I am a geek....
