Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone has been Vars and what it is like? I have heard some positive reports about it, but can't find too many reviews online.
We are a mixed group, with some piste bashers, and others looking for good off piste and hoping for pow.
Thanks

I really like Risoul (linked to Vars) and have been there a couple of times and with the two areas its about 170km of piste IIRC.
There are quite a few long drag lifts that really lift you off your feet. but you can do about 75% of the area without taking a drag but i think it is needed to go from Vars to risoul. There is a great snow park in risoul and a couple of half pipes too.
I would definately say its a thumbs up but i do prefer the risoul side. I'm going back for a third time next year. Tetras is a great stop in the sun for lunch and a glass of vino.
If you are flying, i have gone to Marselle and got a coach tranfer from there, cant remember the name but a quick google will no doubt find it. It was only about €20rtn p.p.
If you book early with Sara residences, they normally do half price liftpasses i think.

Hi Libertine, Thanks very much for the info. Definitely have it on the shopping list. How would you rate the off piste?

Yeah there is some excellet off piste and as quite a family resort, it does not get too tracked out to quickly even just off piste. some really safe wide open OP with decent ledges and the like. Also, some fantastic skiing through the trees on both sides.
Go for it.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Brilliant,
Thanks for the info. Very tempted now. Just have to get the crew together and start working on accommodation. Ah the joys of being foolish enough to orangise stuff!
Thanks though

Two big thumbs up sounds good. What is the night life like there Lizzard? Don't need anything too hectic, but need to be able to have a bit of fun and a boogie. Are there are guides you would recommend?
Thanks

Hi,
I went to Vars a couple of years ago and really liked it, you should be able to read my trip report here: http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=1415775&highlight=vars#1415775
Further Vars/Risoul discussion here: http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?p=1305921&highlight=vars#1305921
Nightlife wise, Risoul would be more what you are looking for, Vars was very quiet and very French, while Risoul has a few more bars and more English is spoken. If you do stay in Vars though, I would highly recommend the PV L'albane apartments, pool, ski to door, near quiet lifts with no queues.
As to skiing, I preferred the Vars side, quieter than the Risoul side (although neither is french mega-resort busy), and more interesting runs. The off piste is managed very well in the Foret Blanche, but bear in mind how far south and sunny the resort is. We went in march and the off piste was a little crispy, as no fresh snow had fallen in a while, so I would suggest going Jan/Feb time for more reliable snow.
Hope that helps.

Risoul was were I won my ski holiday to last winter.
Husband and I really enjoyed Risoul and Vars. We have said if we go back we'll stay over in the Vars side - seemed a bit more lively. There's some great off piste - go for it!
