Hi all as i have to go to Canada in December to visit my parents, thought I would seek of for a week skiing in Quebec, has anyone been to Mont Tremblant? looking for any info on the resort, I am an early immediate skier happy on Reds but have only skied in Austria how does it compare and anyone have any nice hotels that they have stayed in - thanks all

debski, stayed at the Holmewood Suites in Dec a few years ago. Excellent location and very nice rooms (condo). I liked Tremblant as a resort (I quite like Disneyesque)
I can't really speak for the skiing as the conditions were very poor, hardly any snow and about 30 degrees C warmer that it should have been (+14 instead of -1 which then turned into an ice storm on New Years Eve.

Loved it. Perfect for an intermediate and the runs were more consistent that the places I have been in Austria but that is just my opinion. But do be prepared for the cold - it was very cold when I went at half term a couple of years ago. No sitting around outside in the sun like in Europe. The snow was excellent with fresh powder when I was there and the slopes were very well groomed. The tree line is higher than Europe so there was some shelter on most of the runs but nobody hangs around at the top of the mountain where it is exposed because it is just too cold and there were some icy patches where the wind had blow the lose stuff away.
I also stayed in a suite - I think it was Johannsens, but they are lots round the main square. Excellent place so can't speak highly enough of it. Lots of good places to eat so just used the self catering facilities for breakfast. Easy resort, well planned.

albatross, I have friends who live in Montreal and even they complain that it's cold to ski in Tremblant! (I've never been.)

debski, It's the coldest place I've been skiing (and that was in February); ski masks were essential. The facilities were good but it all felt a bit Disneyland-like (It was under Intrawest at the time and may still be for all I know). Queues during the week were no problem but it was heaving at the weekends, and that was before they developed the other side of the mountain/hill. The kids loved it, not only for the skiing (tuition was very good) but also for the waffles at breakfast and the games console in the room in the condo.

Not the coldest place I have skied, that accolade goes to Levi in Finland.

Been there a couple of times when we lived in Canada, can't really compare it to any of the large european resorts that I've been to, think of it as a larger Scottish one. Eastern skiing is famed for its ice and, as previous comments, can be very cold.
Mont Sainte Ann was supposed to be a better destination according to our friends but, as we didn't go there, can't comment!
