 Poster: A snowHead

We're going to take my 24yr old son and his girlfriend to the Dolomites next year. (We went last Dec. and stayed just outside Selva and had a great time) Whilst we skied past Corvara/Colfosco on the Sella Ronda, we didn't stop and have a look around these villages. There looked to be lots of runs there that we didn't have time to do - plus the hidden valley. Does Corvara have nightlife for the youngsters? Could anyone recommend a good hotel ?

erica2004, I can recommend Colletts chalet in Corvara - not much nightlife though. - if you do a search you shoudl find quite a bit on Corvara. Colfosco is smaller and the runs are very easy but lovely.

Echo the recommendation for Colletts - also access to Prolongia plateau with loads of rolling blues and reds. Gran Risa is a spectacular route off the plateau.

Corvara better than Selva for easy runs, but quieter, and posher. Don't know about hotels but apartments much more expensive in Corvara. Hidden Valley is easily accessible in a day for competent skiers from Selva anyway

selva for sure. 0 nightlife in corvara. not that much in selva either but selva is a better base overall

erica2004, It's a bit of a trek from Selva, well off the Sella Ronda route. We did it from Corvara - much quicker to get there and back (but I wouldn't do it again, it's not my type of thing really although I enjoyed the "safari" of getting there.). Do a search and you'll find the route in one of the Sella Ronda threads

If you are with a TO, they will almost certainly run a trip there.
Otherwise, it isn't that hard to organise for yourselves, although Selva is as far away as you can get if staying in one of th Sella Ronda resorts. The run ends above Corvara.

erica2004, Ski Selva to Corvara, across to near San Cassiano, want to be here by 11 to 11.30, get bus for 5 euro (there are streams of coaches and minibuses picking people up) - to the Lagazuoi (sp?) cablecar, up the cablecar, ski the Hidden valley, stopping at the restaurant on the way down for a late lunch. At the bottom take the horse tow ( 2 euro) back to where you got the bus, and ski back across to Corvara and Selva. It is a fairly long day, but easily doable as long as you can ski red runs at a reasonable pace.

Hidden Valley easy to get to from here, www.mountainsunltd.com/chalet/albergo-frohsinn . There's a little nightlife in San Cass these days - Hugs late night parties a stone throw from our door, RU in the village and the las vegas party.

It is an easy ski from Selva, about an hour extra! Take the "Dantercepies" lift up and ski the "Carlsberg" Run (If Carlsberg made ski runs .........) The only pain is the potential bottle necks at Colfosco and or Corvarra! Well worth the schlep though. If you can ski as an intermediate I would start at first lift go over to Laguzoi and then ski accross the road to do "Cinque Torre" a beautiful and deserted area! Have fun.

Thanks for that. We skied the Sella Ronda easily in a few hours but with detours i.e. up the marmolada glacier etc., it does make for a long day. I saw loads of runs at Corvara that we didn't get to do. However, the Granvara hotel (just outside Selva) was lovely and reasonably priced for the quality. We could access the Saslong piste on the way out.
Corvara is pricier. But I'll take RobinS, and Roy Hockley, info and go from there. Sounds great. I loved the skiing out there last year.

erica2004, Selva is probably the liveliest place in the area, here's a bit about the apres, it's not party central but there are a few places with music and dancing, on the mountain at Piz Seteur, apres at the Luislkeller and Kronestube and late nights at Dali disco:

Handy if you could find somewhere near the Costabella chair or Dantercepies gondola for the easiest access twd Corvara and the Hidden Valley.

luigi, Thankyou! We did find some lovely places to eat but I didn't come across the tea rooms - will try next year. The Hidden Valley looks wonderful!
