Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All, Going to Tignes this Saturday and I need advice as to where to eat as we are self catering. But I do the cooking so apart from breakfast we will be eating out lunch and dinner. So where is good, where should I avoid? A idea of cost would be good, as I don't mind spending money, but hate being ripped off.

skid & slide, what part of Tignes?
Loop bar in Le Lac for lunch, massive portions. someone will recommend the sandwich type bar a bit further down the street but I can't remember the name

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

holidayloverxx, +1 for Loop. Tignes Cuisine next door alos does very good value noodles, but I never feel like noodles for lunch in the mountains, feels wrong somehow. Place at the top of Chaudanne lift also good value if you factor in the view and sun-trap aspect.

skid & slide, Cheapest snack/cafeteria type lunch in Le Lac is at the Spar supermarket.
On the mountain the Marmottes restaurant near the "Val" snowpark gets my vote price wise.

If staying or skiing near Le Lac...
The Loop Chilli bowl is epic, as is their enormous burger. Both approx €10-11 and excellent value. At the other end of the street, near Maison du Tignes is L'Arbina which serves one of the finest lasagne's I have ever had. €13. They have their tartiflette on the specials board, one day each week and this superb and also €13 (normally €18 ).
For evening meals, L'Arbina is also a favourite.
The best meal I have had on the mountain is way over the other side of the map at Eidelweiss, just above Fornet. It's a beautiful restaurant with excellent food and not too expensive at all. Further down, the self service restaurant below the cable car station in Fornet does an excellent spag blog for about €12.
The only place to avoid is Brevieres, unless you walk some distance into the village. The first restaurants you come to in Brev are serious rip off merchants and are to be avoided.
Other than Brev, I can't think of anywhere that is a rip off or poor quality and even the restaurant on Grande Motte is good but staying this high for the duration of lunch may leave some of your group with mild hypoxia!
If over in Val Claret, any of the restaurants near the bus stop are good and reasonable but the Aspen in the square just back along the road is one of our faves. It's like a US diner and the food is both superb and well priced.
I haven't eaten at the restaurant at the top of Chaudannes yet, but will make a point of doing so next week

You should, it's excellent. Save it for a sunny day, get a spot outside, relax and enjoy one of the best views in town. If you're staying in ValD the trail back can also take in the Folie Douce for the full apres vibe.

there was a cafe half way down the street from the loop bar in le lac. looked dingy from the outside, but had to catch a (delayed) transfer bus from outside, so ended up getting a snack. quick, cheap and not bad at all. if you want something to keep costs down........

rogg, That's the one I was thinking of. Also +1 for L'Arbina. Less satisfied with L'escalier blanc last time we were there

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Lunch at the Folie Douce could be considered, er, overpriced...

L'Arbina pizzas are massive. Have with a bowl of chips and share them.
I am now thinking about the great food, as much as I am thinking about the mountain, for next week.
