Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hotels in Monetier (Serre Che)

Thinking about a long weekend later in the summer of walking and "taking the waters".

Hotel Alliey looks OK. Any other recommendations? Looking for somewhere reasonably comfortable, happy to pay a bit but I'm working on the assumption that there aren't any ludicrously expensive places there. Nice restaurant a bonus but happy to leave the property for my dinner Cool

Arno, Hotel Alliey is about the best , but book the better rooms in the main hotel if possible, some are in an annexe and are quite small. Hotel Europe is OK too, and both have good restaurants (alliey probably has the edge). Plenty of choice to eat out each night though. If you want lift access for walking, Monetier is open from 3rd July. I think closing day is the 29th August.

Hells Bells, thanks, Alliey is certainly looking favourite.

however, i do have a recollection of seeing somewhere which did fairly straightforward a half board deal (no choice dinner sort of thing) but quite nicely done up - half way between a gite and an hotel. does that ring a bell? can't see anything which fits that description on Christopher's list

Arno, was it Rif Blanc perhaps? Not sure if they only do B&B in the summer, but they do have a website. The Alliey still have a half-board option separate from their main restaurant I think, and there's also the old Cairn hotel which is now under new management, restaurant is Le Table de Corine, They do a reasonable B&B and have a good value restaurant with menu de jour from 13€. B&B from 35€ per person. Some details on this blog http://www.serrechevalier.org/page/5/

OH, I forgot, there's also CHambres d'Hote at the Ferme de Boussardes up in Lauzet. http://www.lafermedesboussardes.com/html/chambres_d_hotes_serre_chevali.html . Great local produce but nothing fancy, roast lamb etc.

Arno, if you are looking for a hotel that is cheap and cheerful then you could try Maison du Bez in le Bez which is a little hamlet above Villeneuve. http://www.hotel-dubez.com/ The rooms are basic and clean, mostly en suite, and the food is good. You could even arrange for a few euro a picnic butty and drink when we were there. It is definitely open in summer as we have stayed in apts next door, and the place was full of MTBers. The ski-room becomes the bike room Smile . Tina, the Swedish owner will take bookings that are short stay, so it might be a viable option. Le Bez has some other nice restos, e.g. la Bidule and is VERY quiet. A 5-10 minute walk takes you over to the Casse de Boeuf chair that is the main uplift for walkers and MBTers in summer from Villeneuve and there is always the infamous Sentier Botanique to try that starts off from Bez village.
