The 12-18" we got last nite should help cool off the ground.
Here is today's view of Mt Rose from my front porch.

My backyard shaman says its going to be a week before I will have something to report.
Edit;1045am
I lied, it just started sprinkling here on the eastern slope. The temps are cool here so it must be snowing up high.

Sprinkles turned to rain

kitenski, Your guess is as good as any, but Squaw is scheduled to open November 20th, which would mean that Northstar, Alpine and Sugar Bowl are probably hoping for the same weekend. Depends on the weather and he snowmaking if there isn't real snow! I have orientation on Nov 14th so will know more then!

Things can change here in a hurry.
Some natural snow has withstood and will be a nice base for the possible storms in the forecast.
Nanny, where are you working again? Northstar? Instructor?

3snowboards, Santa might be good to you, but you'll have to wait until after Xmas to get it (and that's only IF I get one this year!).
kitenski, I'll be there by then so will keep you posted on the conditions if I can - although I usually end up at Mammoth if they have snow before us.

Seems we have rounded a corner concerning seasons.
The storms approaching aren't real wet but they are here.
Yesterday was gusty (60mph+), and today is actually not pretty. Whoohooo!

skinanny, cheers!
3snowboards, not sure what you mean, has new snow arrived in significant quantities??

Change in weather here comes in patterns. To better understand what the weather has in store for us,
we have to recognize the patterns we are in.
The pattern seems to be changing towards wet.
No significant snow accumulations south of I80.
The clouds on Friday Nov 06
The green peak on the right where i think the sierra begin.
Peavine peak.
farther south the clouds are bunched around Mt Rose.

3snowboards, ok, so should I bring my boots for my 16th Nov visit to Cupertino???? Kinda thinking no unless some significant storm pops up between now and then....looks like only Mammoth will be open, which I'm reckoning is a 5hr drive from Cupertino, for 3 lifts....

EXTENDED DISCUSSION (WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY)...UPPER LEVEL
TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE AND ITS ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL MOVE
ACROSS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY...BRINGING A
GOOD CHANCE OF RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW ACROSS THE REGION. THIS
SYSTEM ALSO APPEARS TO BE COLDER THAN PREVIOUS STORMS THIS
YEAR...AND EXPECT SNOW LEVELS TO FALL FROM ABOVE PASS LEVEL ON
WEDNESDAY TO BETWEEN 3500 FEET ACROSS THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS TO
AROUND 4500 FEET IN THE SIERRA ON THURSDAY. THIS WILL MOST LIKELY
IMPACT TRAVEL ACROSS THE SIERRA...AS THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO
BE THE FIRST DECENT SNOW PRODUCER FOR THE SIERRA THIS SEASON.

kitenski, I think your only choice is going to be Mammoth - Boreal might be open from the top, but will hardly be worth it!
Squaw is blowing snow - more than I've ever seen - but is not aiming to be open until Saturday, according to the General Manager this morning.
I think I'm going to Mammoth on Friday. Oh well.

Limited terrain + full price = Mammoth.
You are going down there the day before a forecast storm and opening day @ squaw?

Its been looking like a decent start here and i havent been too stressed (like some other years).
So far its been "We get a little snow, then a lil more, then a lil more", till a nice base is established.
Only now is the land ready for the large snows as hopefully the Gods will look down upon us and provide the legendary dumpage.
For those who dont know what they are seeing here is the Pacific Ocean with The Gulf of Alaska to the north, Hawaii is down there on the left. Cali in the middle.
