went to Montgenevre on a Neilson package from Gatwick, early flights and speedy tranfer meant arrival in resort before 12 oclock. Apartment at Les hameau D'airelles was available at that time too. for those keen to ski a day lift pass could have been purchased and away you go. Apartments still very new looking and were clean spaciou and well appointed, to join the piste it was a matter of coming out of ski locker room and crossing the road to a prepared entrance to the blue Pharoh run, about 200m ski from the serre tibaud and tremplin lifts. We would finish skiing about 3:30pm and quickly change for a dip in the pool, at the apartments, really excellent surounded by snow.
For the week we the there snow was excellent and was topped up with fresh fall alternate days. Claviere was easily reach by 3 routes red blue or green, coming back the red run back to the two lift mentioned was the best way.
We considered the resort not too expensive and for best value it was best to have full meal (ie lasagne, burger pizza, ham and chips) lunchtime as the meals on offer then were not available at the same restaurants in the evening, when a more formal expensive menu was offered. during our stay we ate out 4 times in the evening and cooked 3. Le Refuge is the best place to eat, not cheap but some excellent meet dishes, there is an english run bar "Mages" near the resort centre which did all day brekky if you wanted it, and also did an apres ski snack menu ie cheessy chips at 4 euro from 4 to 6pm, they served guiness and cider too!.
We were not looking for night life, and it seemed quite quiet around resort, ie no load music belching bars! so maybe not for some. after our evening meal we generally watch a dvd that w had taken in our apartment.
For ski hire we used Twinner which was 20m away, i booked direct on line and got intermediate for the price beginner s if we used the neilson pricing, but for a lift pass deal use neilson.
Our main area of sking was the Gontrans bowl area lovely long green blues and reds, stopping every 2 hours for a coffee at the mountain cafe, again prices not too bad ie 2 crepes, 1 irish coffee and a lemonade about 14 euro. then we would exten the run by going all the way back to resort centre and varying our return route to Gontrans.
Our return to Gatwick was again on time leaving resort about 7:15am and being in the hire car on the way home by 12.
in summing up and excellent value weeks skiing in a non crowded resort, that with ski hire lift pass apartment flights and spends came in at about £1700

Did you get as far as Sestrierre and Sauze d'Oulx?
Was one of the ways you went to Claviere to go off the back of the Rocher d'Aigle (or was it Rocher des Aigles?) to ski the Monts de la Lune?

no we didn't we are just blue surfers, plus it was just me 46 and daughter 14
but we thought of day tripping to Sierre Chevalierre, Neilson ran a trip for 20 euros and the Monts de lune 6 day pass covered it for 1 day
we thought the Rocher De l' aigle would be too tough for us, but we came back via red route 99a, that was good.
One of our favourite runs was Le Prarial a blue that goes to the Le Brousset lift or Le Tremplin
