Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

After a last-minute hit on the Bellecote North face with Greg (see
Ruggéri couloir from Simon Christy
http://vimeo.com/10874528), there was just time to dash home, have a quick shower & change, and swap for some dry skins & kit for the climb up to the Plan des Gouilles refuge. I had a long-standing engagement to ski the Grand Bec with my good lady wife, so late afternoon saw us doing battle with the trees on the path up from Les Bois:



Finally we emerged from the trees and into the clear for the rest of the skin to the hut:



Sunday dawned cloudy at hut level, but by 7 a.m. we were clear of the clouds... looking across to Bellecote:



A good (if steep) skin track was well in place from previous parties, with plenty of kick turn practise along the way:

A long skate along the cross-country tracks finally got us back to the car for a welcome break from ski boots, and a quick drink at the refuge du Bois to celebrate before heading home for my customary end of season afternoon in front of the Paris-Roubaix bike race (hats off to Cancellara..!)..
