Forget Euro Millions, this is a game you have a chance of winning. Don't ask me how I know but Mr David Ernst Goldsmith is skiing Cairngorm today and tomorrow and then moving on to either Nevis or Glencoe. To win this fabulous competition and enter snowHeads folklore, all you need to do is (1) Spot him (should be easy... black Marker one piece, (yes, a fart bag) and Nordica boots - they are the only clues you get (2) snap a picture on your phone (3) bowl up to him and say "you are David Ernst Goldsmith and I claim my 50p" (he'll have to pay you the 50p - just refer him to these terms & conditions if he kicks off) (4) post your picture and recount your encounter on this thread. C'mon, someone has to win.

Would anyone want to win is the more appropriate question? You know what they say about meeting your idols

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Fattes13, I think you'll find that the almost complete lack of response to this thread is evidence that 000s of snowHeads are heading up the A9 in their frugal winterised chariots to try and be the winner.

Bode Swiller,
Looking forwards to the TR from DG, and the indignant complaints of how it ain't like it was in the 1960s...

Given that he is always extolling the virtues of rear entry and how you get much more feeling, I would have thought that was a good clue for spotting El Goldie.

davidof, I'll help out a little more... and I'm quoting from my source... "red Nordica Syntech about 15+ years old. Mid-entry - 4 conventional clips (though nice and wide and chunky), and a rear release mechanism that really works for walking". Jealous? I know I am.

Doesn't that constitute another clue?

All, frankly the response is somewhat disappointing. Assuming he's off the hill by now, the game will need to move into the apres arena but I cannot help with what he may be wearing - hemp and plastic sandals probably. For old time's sake he'll definitely go into the Winky at some stage this evening. If you stake the place out and say to absolutely everyone: "is your name David Ernst Vielhaber Goldsmith" you are bound to get a result... and probably a good old punch up.

Bode Swiller, I had a gut feeling that you were leading us up the garden path with the location, so I staked out the local park instead. Unfortunately I was unable to get anyone I accosted to admit to being of any Goldsmithian descent whatsoever. Guess the meter will go hungry again today then

Yes I had some back in the day. Kind of look like a race boot but effectively rear entry. They also had vibram on the toe and heel so you could walk. I reckon you could use them for ski touring.
I was never comfortable in mine.... but it was maybe me and not the boots.

Glad David's headed for the slopes. Hope he has better luck getting skis than when he last tried.

kevindonkleywood, never too late to enter. If my source is correct he'll be at Nevis Range today - an easy 6 hour slog for you.

maggi, whinge? Observe. Though maybe it's the 'whinging' that goaded him into action. But yes, it is a good write up. Hope he is able to get in lots more skiing in now that he's got going again.

For obvious reasons we at Snowheads HQ like to keep tabs on Ernst Goldfish's current location. With that in mind I've whipped up a quick map here with some current data from his tracking chip

Damn, only just seen this thread. I was skiing at Cairngorm on Saturday and have 2 possible candidates:
1) Person spotted on M2 wearing purple all in one lyrca suit, complete with hood.
2) Shared the Coire na Ciste T-Bar with an older fella with old style skis and rear entry boots, who said it ain't what it used to be.

johnboy, I was there and saw the purple guy as well. Did you see the guy in shorts? BTW sun was nice but snow heavy going IMV.

Very unlikely. I imagine he skis as much as he is able to.

altis, That would be an interesting medical report - "Patient was skiing and got his avalance cord/helium balloon caught around his neck - cause of death, autoerotic asphyxiation. Contents of wallet, INXS fanclub / Conservative party membership cards"
