Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi, have just got back from 8 days skiing in Les Arcs, for the first time in more years than I would like to say, i had sore knees on the inside of the knee from hitting/rubbing etc my down hill knee onto my inner ski boot plastic.
Yes I angulate alot when carving and speaking to my son and others we skied with they said it was pretty extreme, however never had this before, the only difference in skis this time was fatter 94cm under foot skis compard to my older 68cm ones.
Could this be the reason? than I am over anglutating to make up for the wider ski?
And yes my inner ski is well forwards in the turn!
Any feedback most welcome

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

livetoski, Sound like you ski with an "A Frame" i.e. your knees are closer together than your feet. It's important to maintain the gap between your knees, so that your feet are hip width apart, knees also. if you don't your skis will be tilted to different angles as you angulate. Be concious of maintaining the gap between your knees, concentrate on the inside/uphill one.
Pull back the inner ski so that your feet are almost side by side, if you've got an evening to spend reading, there's a thread on "Inner Tip Lead" Your carving will be more effective and you wont be getting sore knees.

Spyderman, I understand what you are saying, I can ski both type of carve as you say both feet at hip width using both skis to carve no problem there.
the knocking on the inner boot is when all weight is on the downhill ski and the inner ski is well forward and essentially unweighted, but maybe I am too close on the knees in this type of turn for a wider ski, I tried lots of different turns to see why it was happening I do ski quite fast when doing this type of turn!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

livetoski, do you have photos or video to look at the problem? I've never heard of this before.
