Poster: A snowHead
|
Off for three days skiing in La Plagne (this Sat, Sun & Mon) and from worrying about an almighty thaw and having to ski in mojito conditions it looks like some snow's coming and we may be whited out.
Any La Plagniers out there who can ease my fears or suggest where best to go in 100% cloud!?
Thanks

Came back last night (monday) and the thaw is settling in - many runs have been subjected to minor avalanches/closures
A good chill is required and some new snow would be beneficial.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We go there regularly and when it's like that we would head for the trees down to Montalbert or Montchavin depending on where you are staying in LP and assuming snow conditions ok lower down.... Will be driving through the night on Friday to get there Saturday lunch. Most snow forecast Saturday afternoon and night, Sunday looks clear. Have fun!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Being selfish, the more snow the better for the next couple of weeks...we don't get out there until the 10th!

In Les Arcs in bad vis it seemed to pay to stay low and in the trees - it might be similar in La Plagne.

....but it might not because La Plagne is in one big bowl.

Ta for words of Wisdom. Getting a paradiski pass may be the way forward as Les Arc has more (and higher) tree lined runs. Tally ho

Boredsurfing, the main part of the resort is as you said a bowl - but over by Montalbert (on the way to the Paradiski link over to Les Arcs) is out of the bowl, has trees which help in bad viz and I think might even be north(ish) facing ? And there's also quite a bit of terrain outside the 'bowl' over on the Champagny side.

It is like April at the moment but the plus is we have snow on the way this weekend with the freezing level dropping. So you may be ok. If this vis is bad head to Montalbert but not all our runs are open due to the conditions. No chance of avalanche over here though. Just great tree lined skiing or water skiing at the moment!!
