Poster: A snowHead
|
I had a mare in the slush at the end of Face in Val D'Isere today. Lost it big time at speed and fell, skis didn't come off and I felt a bit of a snap behind the knee.
Strangly I can still ski fine without any pain, but walking is a different matter. Very sore behind the knee and on upper calf. I am hoping it is not the cruciates, but just a nasty calf sprain, I do a lot of cycling so have quite tight calfs muslces.
I've iced and all of that and there is no swelling. Conditions are so good here I have to go out again tomorrow. I know I know.
Anyone got any ideas of what I've bashed?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

DaveB, go and see the chaps at the English medical centre. Do not go skiing tomorrow on the basis of what a load of random opinionated punters on the internet tell you.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No, no. She's wrong; waste of money. Rub it with a tincture of egg yolk mixed with tea tree oil and freshly gathered dandelion shoots, then sit in the lotus position for 30 minutes. Never fails.

Snap isn't good. In my time I've done
1 ACL
2 Meniscus (cartillage)
3 Torn a calf muscle
4 Broken a tibial plateau
1 Knee felt unstable, skied on it after some days rest & subsequent seasons
2 Knee joint would catch or lock
3 Sore swollen calf but quite happy to go out next day (swapped to snowboard for boot comfort purposes)
4 Really couldn't walk too well
1 is probably not advisable by medical professionals
IANAD. or physio.

DaveB,
Did something not dissimialr 2 and 1/2 weeks back in Valmeinier - powder day, untracked, skis tips crossed underneath flipped me up in the air, shooting pain in calf (thank god not eth knee) that would not go away.
First day without pain was only yesterday ; massive bruise over whole lower leg front and back from top of knee to halfway down foot only came out 5 days later after fall.
Unbelievably i could still ski, but could not walk. Skid for another 5 days though - couldnt resist teh wonderful white stuff and blue sky .
For what my undoubtedly rubbish opinion is worth - if you can ski on it, it can;t be that bad .............
