Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resort: La Clusaz
Country: France
Who: Me and OH
Date: Monday to Friday; 15/03/2010 to 19/03/2010

Transport: Aerlingus from Dublin to Geneva. Transfer with Alps2Alps Transfers approx one hour to our accommodation in La Clusaz who we found to be offering the best rate and were very friendly.

Accommodation: Stayed in the Hotel Carlina, La Clusaz. Very nice hotel, room was very small although we were advised of this when we were booking, breakfast was excellent. The hotel also allowed customers free used of their pool facility, however we did not use the spa facilities e.g. jacuzzi, sauna, etc due to an unjustifiable charge of €12 per person Puzzled . The hotel is located approx 5 min walk to the main gondolas.

Lift system: Good. La Clusaz has 2 gondolas serving the main ski areas – one to the Beaugard, the other to Cret du Merle.

The terrain: Nice varied runs, most of which are red and blue runs, but also has some good black runs although Le Noire in the Beaugard area was closed due to the high temperatures. There are also a number of green runs but these tended to be small flat roadways rather than wide pistes like most of the blues. There were 5 main areas with runs above and through the tree line all linked. We found the Col de Balme area was the best for good intermediates, while the Beaugard area suited early intermediates. Our favourite runs were the lovely tree lined Guy Perillat from the top of the Beaugard back into the town and also the red run from the top of the Col de Balme to Les Chenons.

The snow: It had not snowed for 2 weeks prior to our arrival but there was plenty of snow cover on the pistes. However due to nice sunny conditions (i.e. 15 degrees) the lower slopes near the town became very slushy in the afternoon.

The resort: La Clusaz is a small traditional French town comprising of hotels, restaurants and sports shops with some sinful but lovely patisseries wink .

Food: Overall, I would say the food was of the good standard both in the mountain restaurants and in the town. Would recommend the good value restaurant L’Outa and we had lovely traditional type dishes one evening in L’Ourson.

Up the mountains there are plenty of choice, offering both self-service and table service. We found the Restaurant Le Praz to be the best.

Après-Ski: Mid-week was very quiet. On Monday night there was free entertainment in the town square, with local musicians and free hot chocolate, vin chaud and fromage being provided. On Thursday, night skiing was available and people took to the slopes with the traditional toboggans.

Highlights: The Ski Area, Traditional French Atmosphere in the Town; The Scenery, particularly the view of Mont Blanc at the top of Col de Balme was breathtaking where you can also see into the resorts of Chamonix and Megeve.
The resort overall is very good. The locals were also very friendly.

Conclusions: Overall fantastic resort for families and couples. Any people seeking après-ski should look elsewhere. Would like to return sometime and visit Le Grand Bornard area too. Very Happy [/b]
