Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hochzillertal or Hochfugen First day for beginners

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello Everyone,

Great site. I am off to the Zillertal for Easter. I am an intermediate aiming to get my 2 sons upto speed. My eldest son (14) skiied some red runs in Mayrhofen 2 seasons back. My other son (12) was like a kamikaze down the slopes and I feared for his life!!!

I am staying in Fugen and was wondering which part to go to on the first day. We will obviously need to build up on some gentle slopes. I have never skiied Hochzillertal or Hochfugen and was trying to work out the best for us. Any ideas/tips would be most welcome.

Also, with it being so late on in the season- any tips for blues and reds as obviously the later in the day the sun would be having an effect on the snow- which slopes get slushy if any later on in the day?

Thank-you very much and wish me luck as they are a handful without skis Very Happy

Cheers

Dan

Dang, as pam w, says, lessons might be a good idea!
With the combination that you're describing and if you're going to go for it on your own, then I suggest you head for Hochzillertal. I don't have a piste map to hand right now, so I can't give you piste numbers to head for... But, go up the gondola, when you come out at the top turn left, there's a blue road that takes you to an 8-person heated chairlift called, possibly, Schnee Express, or something similar... From the top of there, ski down heading right, you come to a wide open blue piste accessed by a T-bar or by a 2-person chairlift. From there you can take the Z-road back to the top of the gondola.
At the moment, early morning is good, well pisted, but it's getting pretty soft everywhere by the end of the day. Snowed yesterday which has freshened everything up.

Thanks Pam & Sara,

They both have had lessons in Mayrhofen. Just a little worried as it was a while back and do not know what they will be like at the beginning. I am sure at the end of the week they will be more advanced than me.

I just wanted a head start and start off in the right area as we only 3 days on the slopes.

Thank-you once again

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Dang, For sure, by the end of the week they'll be better than you, but without at least one reminder lesson to start them off you could be setting yourself up for a nightmare couple of days. Still, that's up to you.
If you have any more questions, give me shout... I know the area pretty well.
